Edge of the Lake, Early Afternoon Sunday

Jun 17, 2007 14:56

It was deathly quiet here. The water was still, and there was but one sign of anything amiss.

That sign was the glimpses of a body, floating in the shallows of the water.

Nadia had heard the bells the Groundskeeper rang modded with permission and had noticed the bit of commotion to the south as she and her group kept searching the southern end of town. She hurried over, but stopped a few feet shy of actually reaching the group.

She could just make out Thelma amidst it all. She'd seen enough dead bodies to be able to tell that Thelma was now just another one.

She swallowed hard and took and involuntary step back, then stopped again . . . then turned and ran back into town. She had to tell people. Right. That's why she was running.

It had nothing to do with it hurting to see her friend as "just another dead body".

[ooc: about to run out for family dinner for Father's Day, so Nadia's reaction is a quick one. I'll be back later this evening to play things out more]

When Nadia had run off, Susan had followed her out of concern. Now she saw the girl running and stepped into her path. "Nadia?"

Nadia tried to dodge around Susan. "She's--she's dead, I have to let people know,"

Damn. Susan's expression darkened but she as always, she kept her head in a crisis. She wasn't sure letting Nadia go running off while in shock was such a good idea with a possible murderer around.

She reached out towards the girl beseechingly. "Let's go back to the chapel. The people there should know. The rest of the searchers should follow us."

Nadia shook her head. "No, I . . . I--please, I just need to go."

Susan softened but she was still reluctant to let the girl go off on her own. In her own experience there was no telling what the recently bereaved would do. "Promise me then that you won't go wandering off by yourself. If Thelma was murdered, the murderer could still be around," she said as gently as she could manage in these circumstances.

Nadia's expression hardened momentarily. She rather hoped that she would run into Thelma's murderer. She'd like to beat the crap out of the person. "I know. I won't do anything foolish."

Susan nodded, giving her a sympathetic look. "Take care of yourself, Nadia."
