Using a wide-brimmed, witch-like hat as a temporary fan, Evangeline sat on a spot on the grass outside the servants' quarters that were supposedly to serve as her new residence. Nadia was out for a walk and noticed the new girl. "Um, hey. That's a lot of stuff."

"Hey you." Walter grinned over at her. "Pip and I are going to get it upstairs for her. If I can convince him to put his mercenary sensibilities aside."

Nadia grinned back. "That's very chivalrous of you. You should tell him that if he does very, very well, they might give him a tip, like a bellboy. And wouldn't he rather just be voluntary than a bellboy?"

"That's a good argument. I'll have to use that on him."

"You can tell him I thought of it, if you like. And that if he still wants a tip when he's done and she doesn't give it to him, I've got a nickel he can have."

Walter snickered. "I'm certain he'll love that suggestion."

"Oh, I know he will,"

After conferring with Pip, Walter turned back to Nadia. "He says he's no gentleman, but he's going to do it."

"I already knew he wasn't a gentleman. But I was also pretty sure he was no bellboy."

"And he'll even mind the tea set," Walter said, eyes merry. "We may reform him yet."

"Really. My, you have been a good influence on him. But let's not reform him, too much. Pippi might object."

"I couldn't do that to her. She'd throw me in a tree or something."

"And wouldn't that be embarrassing."

[walter_n_wires]

"Terribly. One should never be tossed in a tree by your best friend because you made her boyfriend into too much of a gentlemen."

"If you're going to get tossed into a tree by your best friend, there are far better reasons for it than that."

"Yes, like needing food when stranded on a desert island."
