The Divine Leaf: Monday [8-25-08]

Lana's face and arm were still looking pretty battered, but she was here, Neffie snuggled in her arms or on her shoulder. Funny how the kitten hadn't seemed to get any larger over all the time she'd been around.

Neffie's in full protective mode. Which is very interesting when coming from a small kitten.

"What the crap happened to you?" Owen asked upon seeing the aforementioned face. "I mean, are you okay?"

Considering Lana had been the one to give him the very good advice about taking pictures of his kids, he kind of felt like he had to ask.

"Owen, hi," Lana ducked her head. "I was sort of... I had an accident."

Of course, the distinctive fingerprint bruises on her right arm might make him wonder.

Neffie hissed at him, but subsided grumblingly when Lana gathered her up in her arms.

"An accident - run-in, really, - with someone," she clarified. "It's been dealt with. But thank you for asking."

"Ouch." He winced sympathetically. "Well, at least you're okay. That's what matters, right?"

She nodded. "And I'm very okay. These will heal soon enough."

"How are you doing?"

"Eh." He shrugged. "Pretty good, all things considered." He hesitated a moment. "Followed your advice, y'know. About taking pictures of my kids before they left."

"Yeah?" She smiled softly. "I'm glad to have my pictures."

"Sometimes it's hard looking at the pictures, but... I'd much rather have them. Even the ones who weren't actually mine. Lilly's daughter with Dean and her daughter with Logan."

Lana let out a shaky breath. "Yeah. it's hard to think of them sometimes. One of mine I worry about terribly. But I don't ever want to forget them."

She snuggled Neffie tighter for a moment. "It's amazing how quickly you can come to love someone."

"Yeah, it is," Owen agreed. "And kind of made me reconsider my whole never wanting to be a parent thing. I mean, I don't want to be a parent any time soon. God, no. I'd shoot myself. But after I do college and med school... I don't think I'd really mind."

"I've always wanted children," Lana said softly.

"Maybe this is the right place for you to have 'em." Owen wasn't very good with this sort of conversation -- or good with it at all, really, but Lana was so sweet that he kind of had to try. "I mean, maybe not now but someday."

Piper was in desperate need of coffee, so she stopped into the Divine Leaf on her way to work. She glanced at the specials for a moment. "Hey Lana, can I get some coff..."

That's when she noticed her friend's appearance. "What happened?"
