The Park: Sunday Afternoon: 7.13.08

Bella was up in a tree again, her shoes and socks lay at the base of it. She was walking along in her bare feet across a rather wide limb while hanging onto one above her head.

Faith looked up, smoking a cigarette. "What's with you and trees?" She laughed.

Bella looked down at her. "I like them." She said before going to the trunk of the tree to get her footing to go higher. She grabbed a branch and hoisted herself up and straddled the branch she had been hanging onto a minute before. She swung her legs back and forth.

Faith shrugged and started to walk away, teasing Bella. "Kay bye...."

Bella frowned from her vantage point. "Why bye?"

"Trees are weapons, monkey bars are for climbing," Faith explained, turning around. She opened her arms and grinned up at Bella, "Jump."

Bella shrugged and took a leap out of the tree. Grinning she did not fall fast at all but rather floated down slowly and grinned as she reached Faith.

Faith caught her in her arms. "Light as a feather, eh?" Faith smiled back. She set her down on the ground, and sat down, patting the spot next to her. "Sit next to me."

She laughed, "Just part of being magical me." She said grinning. "Why don't you come sit in the tree with me?"

"Like I said, trees are for stakes, I only climb things that are metal or concrete." She shrugged and lit another cigarette. "Maybe it's something from when I was a kid, we didn't have too many trees in South Boston, but we had lots of playgrounds with monkey bars."

"What's a monkey bar?"

[faithfulchosen]

"It's a set of metal bars, for climbing. Makes you look like a monkey, swinging around on them. I bet I could get the SRF to make me a set to show you sometime." She took a drag and exhaled.

"They have swings here. On the other side of the park. They might have Monkey bars there." Bella mused looking up at the branches. "Monkey bars don't sound like much fun." She replied before starting to climb up the trunk again. She didn't go as high, she sat on the lowest branch.

Faith looked up slightly. "Maybe, I'll have to look one day." She finished her cigarette and stubbed it out, pulling out her pocketknife and picking up a stray branch, absentmindedly whittling a stake.

"What's that?" She said watching her with interest.

[faithfulchosen]

"A stake." She stripped the bark off, beginning to sharpen the end. "I whittle them when I need 'em, or if I'm just bored." She held it up. "See?" She shrugged. "I realized I only have one left."

Bella snatched it from Faith's hand and looked at it. "Why don't you use the same ones over and over again?" She said touching the point of it against her finger.
