Der Waffle Haus, Saturday Evening/Night

Feb 16, 2008 21:29

Nick sat alone at the counter, eating a solitary meal, by his solitary lonesome, with a solitary newspaper.

...

He really needed to get out more and make more friends.

Someone should come and keep him company.

[[OOC: Because something should happen in town today! Come bother the lonely cop! He needs friends!]]

Vanessa came in the door, then hesitated. This was very different from the pubs or taverns of her time and she was not quite sure what to do.

Nick looked over from his counter at the puzzled looking girl. He swallowed.

"Is everything alright?"

She smiled a little nervously. "I had wanted to get food, but this place is... much different from what I was used to."

"What are you used to?" Nick asked, cutting into his omelette.

"A pub or a tavern," she said carefully. "Dark with candles and a fire. There is no electricity or any such things. Not that I miss the loss. But usually you would be told what they would serve you."

Nick did not understand a lot of that.

But person in need and all that. He waved her over. "Take a seat," he said.

"Are you certain?" she asked, hesitating before sitting down. "It is quite kind of you to help me, but I do not wish to intrude."

"I could use some company," Nick admitted. He pulled out a menu and pushed it over to her. "Anything on there."

She looked at the entries in the menu, many of which might as well have been written in Greek for all she understood them. "I suppose eggs are safe enough," she said thoughtfully. "And at least I know what they are. Bacon as well."

Nick leaned over and pointed to an entry for a bacon and cheese omelet. "I recommend that," Nick said. "Cook does a great omelet."

"Omelet?" Vanessa asked curiously, then nodded. "Very well, I shall trust you and try it."

Nick nodded. "Well, you should... generally trust policemen," he said.

He had almost said always, but experience told him that wasn't true.

"Policemen?" Vanessa said curiously.

"Well, technically Sheriff and Deputies. And it should be police officers, since 'men" is too sexist but the point is more that you should trust us," Nick responded, hoping she at least understood that.

"I should trust you," Vanessa said slowly, really not understanding much of anything he said. "Are you like... the village guard?"

"...Something like that," Nick said, just going with it. "I'm... like the head of the village guard, actually."
