The Park, Friday night

Nov 02, 2007 18:40

Meg was on her back, laying on a gazebo bench and staring out over through the slats in the wood at the night sky. She didn't feel like being indoors despite the chill in the air. She simply wrapped herself up in a sweater and calmly, and quietly walked on out to the park, settling herself on her favorite bench to lay down.

Just, hopefully... she ( Read more... )

Jack was simply out for a nice evening walk.

He was definitely not out trolling the park in hopes of running into any batshit insane demons.

Just out for a stroll.

Spying the young lady, Jack frowned a little worriedly but then easily replaced the expression with a lazy sort of smile as he walked over towards her.

"Pity that such a pretty lady is out alone."

Startled, Meg sat up quickly, her eyes searching and finding the one that spoke to her. "Hi... I'm just... well, I often come here alone."

Stopping a few feet away from her, Jack put his hands in his pockets and smiled.

Definitely, very pretty but looking just a touch younger than his usual partners.

"Are you a student here?"

"Yes, I am," Meg said with a slight smile. "I'm Meg Manning. I don't believe I've seen you around before." Then again, she was sure she hasn't met half the inhabitants here at Milieux.

Meg... didn't get out much.

"Captain Jack Harkness," Jack announced, bowing to her with a grand flourish and a warm smile.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Meg Manning. I'm fairly new to the area myself," he offered, strolling closer to the bench.

"I don't mean to be alarming but with all the things that have happened around here recently, I have to admit to some concern when I see a lovely young woman out by herself at night."

Meg's smile grew at his bow and his warm smile. He was very handsome and she noticed that right away - just with his smile, he was even more so.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Captain Jack Harkness," she said softly and scooted over in case he would like to share her bench.

"It's all right; I've been warned about coming out by myself but I can't seem to quit coming here at night. It's lovely." She blushed slightly at his compliment but it was probably hard to tell given the darkness of night.

Far be it for him to give up the chance to sit next to such a beauty, even if she did look a bit what was termed underaged.

Folding his coat tails around his legs, he took the silently offered seat with a gentle smile and leaned his hands on his thighs, head turned towards her attentively.

"I'm afraid I have to agree with those who have given the warnings. Why, last night I ran into a fellow who ended up running off with my pizza."

He made it sound playful, kept out the bit about the fireballs and the gun but the last thing he wanted to see was for Meg to get hurt.

Her smile never faultered, even after his attention was directed solely upon her.

She did arch a dubious brow at his statement though and chuckled lightly. "Are you teasing me, Captain Jack?"

Jack arched his upper body back and gave her a look of playful hurt.

"I would never do such a thing!" He cried. "I promise you, I was most upset. I was looking forward to my anchovies and pineapple pizza with extra mushrooms!"

She titled her head back and laughed, despite his mock pain. "I do love a good pizza with pineapple. Who was this pizza thief? Did you get a good look?"

Jack shook his head in a hangdog manner. He'd gotten a fair look at Bel but his hope was that he could gently warn Meg away from the demon without actually going on about fireballs, choking and scruff.

"Alas, I did not," he bemoaned and then he got a little bit more serious. "Still, it was a frightful encounter and I'd hate to hear of such a thing happening to a sweet young lady as yourself. You've been very welcoming."

Meg studied him for a moment, trying to determine whether or not he was telling her the truth. Pizza stealing seemed kind of funny but she didn't want to play it off if he was that bothered by it.

"I'm sorry your pizza was stolen. Usually I don't walk around at night carrying pizza though. I usually just order in," she said, ducking her head a bit because her smile might have crept back.

"Just order in?" Jack exclaimed, shaking his head mournfully. "You're boyfriend or girlfriend is falling down on the job!"

Leaning towards her but stopping short of totally crowding her personal space, he grinned with playful wickedness at her.

"If you were mine, I'd have you out and about showing you off as much as possible."

Meg blushed scarlet. "I don't have a boyfriend or a girlfriend, Jack," Meg replied softly, looking embarrassed to admit to such, especially when everyone around seemed to be paired with someone.

She grinned and leaned towards him slightly, boldly and playfully saying, "If you were mine, I would be doing the same thing."

Jack tilted his head, looking thoughtful for a moment and then he bounded to his feet in a flurry of coat and a brush of wool scented wind.

"Hungry?" He asked Meg, grinning down at her.

She laughed, surprised at him and his demeanor. "Well, I haven't really thought about it, but... maybe I could eat something."
