All Souls, Thursday Evening

All Souls was open.

There was a man sitting at one end of the bar. Smoke from his cigarette curled around his face.

He tapped his free hand on the bar in time to the music and smiled.

The lead singer was no Wilson Pickett, but it was still a nice little welcome back ditty.

I'm gonna wait till the midnight hour...

I could sit by myself in my motel room and do nothing or I could sit in a bar with a drink in my hand and do nothing.

I can almost hear Harry's voice asking me which I think is more 'normal'.

Midnite noted the unfamiliar face and nodded to his new customer.

That guy has the look of a regular here. I nod back to him, don't want to be rude.

I order a beer.

Midnite could understand that. He took a drag and exhaled as he spoke.

"New in town?"

"More or less. On a bit of an extended vacation."

Midnite nodded, his eyes obscured by the shadow his hat's brim cast.

"Not a Hawaii kind of guy?"

"I was born and raised in Miami."

"Ah. Ever lived in a small town, before?"

[the_hot_morgan]

"Not really... Suburbs are somewhat small town'ish I suppose but... no."

[baron_minuit]

Midnite nodded.

"Can't say I've spent much time in the suburbs, but yes. I think you'll find Milieux to be something of a change of pace."

In more ways then one, if the town hadn't changed at all since Midnite had been away.

"I hear your fishing is excellent."

Actually, I heard that it just is. How are your currents?

[baron_minuit]

"Have you? I'm not mush of a fisherman, myself, so I can't confirm or deny. Maybe you should visit the mayor's office? I hear he gives out maps..."

[the_hot_morgan]

"I haven't been out yet, waiting for my boat to be delivered... I haven't visited the mayor's office..."

I don't want the mayor to know who I am. The sheriff is bad enough.

"... Is that normal here?"

[baron_minuit]

Midnite shrugged, observing him from beneath the brim of his hat.

"Enough people have done it that it's made the evening news, now and again."

"Yeah, your local news is... iiiinteresting."
