"Oh, fine!" Thelma said, bursting out the doors of the dorm house onto the porch. "Be that way. Go off and take care of your mum. God knows nobody is just hanging around, back from the dead just because you got her sacrificed or anything!"

She huffed and sat down on the steps of the porch to pout.

She missed Cassie already.

Malachi had been out for a walk when he spotted a familiar face. "Bad day?" he asked, leaning against the porch rail.

"Bloody hell," Thelma said, jumping a bit. "Scare a girl to death!"

"Bit late for that," Malachi grinned.

[inshiningarmour]

"...You seem to know an awful lot for someone I haven't met," Thelma said.

"Malachi," Malachi said. He sat next to her on the steps and offered her his hand. "You mean how I can tell you're a ghost? I've got a bit of a talent in that area."

Thelma rubbed the back of her neck. "Don't think I can take that, sorry," she said. "Are you a... boy witch or something?"

"Oh, right," he said, looking down at his hand. "Sorry. Force of habit." He rested his hand on his thigh. "My mother was a witch," he said by way of explanation.

"Oh," Thelma said. "So you inherited some sort of witchly sight or something." She nodded. "Must come in handy."

"On occasion," Malachi agreed. "What's wrong? Want to talk about it?"

"Oh, just... my best mate's gone off and left me here," Thelma said.

"What'd she go and do that for?" Malachi asked. Cassie had left?

"Something about her mum," Thelma said with a sigh.

"Sounds like it could be serious," Malachi said. "She probably needs your support now."

[inshiningarmour]

"Smuggling myself on board a plane seems a bit too tricky, really," Thelma said.

"I'm sure flouncing out on her in a huff is the way to go, then," Malachi said.

"She didn't even give me a proper goodbye. Left me a note, of all things," Thelma said. "Best mate, get killed for her, and she doesn't even stick around long enough to say goodbye."
