Cameron had gotten a call asking her to come down and man the clinic for the day.

So there she was, sitting at the front desk when she wasn't checking on patients. It was amazing to her that House had already gotten behind on his charting. She knew that she shouldn't enable him, but she also couldn't let the charting go undone.

Because it was the only way to keep him from pestering the nurses and getting himself upset over being stuck here, Sam was still sedated, and on some nice painkillers to boot.

He wasn't happy about it, but it was working.

A person Anders probably didn't want to see.

"Don't know," Sam said groggily once he'd processed the question, annoyed that it had taken an extra moment or two. "Demon. Couldn't see him though. What, you here to finish the job?"

"Lovely," Sam said, grimacing as he attempted to shift himself into a sitting position -- an attempt he abandoned fairly quickly. "I have enough sarcasm to deal with from that doctor as it is."

"You're really not gonna give that up, are you?" asked Sam, his exasperation dulled by the sedative. "I should be dead, is all I know."

"I'm not gonna give up until I know for sure," Cally said. "But... I'm giving you a benefit of everyone else's doubt, for now."

"Had to?" Sam wished he could take her word for it, but she wasn't the only one who couldn't be sure of things any more. "What'd she do to you?"

She wasn't going to mention Galen, and her manipulation of... gods, that didn't make any sense now, did it?

"He was my commander," Cally said. "She was trying to weaken the ship so they could kill us all."

That dream he'd had years ago about playing judge, jury, and executioner came back to him more vividly than he wanted it to.

"So what . . . they made you pull the trigger on her?" asked Sam, a little weirded out that -- he thought -- he could almost understand.
