Jongin was worth his sad miserable life and so much more. Jongin was worth everything and Sehun would take the bullet for him anytime. Jongin was the most beautiful thing to ever exist in this horrible world and Sehun would do anything to keep the smile on his face, would give everything he owns if he had to.
“What are you thinking about?” Sehun snapped out of his thoughts when he saw a familiar face popping up right in front of his own, with a goofy smile and all.
That you deserve all the good things this world has to offer and nothing less. “Oh, just about how bland this beer tastes,” Sehun lied, shaking the bottle around a bit. “Should’ve known you’d buy the cheapest brand.”
“Oh quit the yapping, you know we both need to save money!” Jongin said as he sat down on the grass next to Sehun. They clinked their bottles before taking a sip.
“I’m really glad we decided to do this,” Jongin said, gesturing at their friends with his bottle, who were sitting in a messy arrangement all over the grass. “It has been far too long since we relaxed like this, without going to a bar or anything.”
Sehun just smiled at him.
“I mean, it was more exciting and all, when we were underaged and drinking outside, but this still feels nice,” he continued and the fond smile on his face made Sehun’s heart do little flips in his chest.
“Yeah,” he answered, nodding his head. “It’s nice. I like this too.”
Jongin was so radiant and full of positivity. He was from a good family with loving sisters and both of his parents still happily married. Jongin was a ball of sunshine ready to light up any room, and he shined so bright that Sehun could only admire it from the shadows. Sehun could never reach up to his level.
They were born in to completely different worlds, minds, bodies, and yet somehow Jongin still wanted to be around him. Sehun didn’t want to taint him with his miserable, gloomy life, but Jongin still stuck around. Of course it made Sehun happier, but he was also worried because Jongin should be around other radiant people. People who would shine with him and not taint his glow.
Sehun was not one of those people.
“It’s about time you got some fresh air too,” Jongin chuckled, turning to look at Sehun after. “You spend way too much time alone, locked up in your house.”
“I like some peace and quiet sometimes,” Sehun said, offering a little smile and he hoped that Jongin couldn’t read him, because that was a lie. He hated being alone, he hated being with himself, he hated his own company. He wanted someone to be with him to distract him from the thoughts, to shut his brain off so he wouldn’t have to deal with it. He wanted his head to be quiet and peaceful.
But he couldn’t expect such a thing from Jongin. He couldn’t even ask, because he didn’t want to be a burden. He didn’t want to be the thing that weighed down Jongin the most, he didn’t want to be the one to take that positivity away. He didn’t want to be the one to wipe that smile off of his face. He desperately wanted to keep it there, so he had to keep to himself.
“Yeah, yeah, I know you,” Jongin said and laughed.
Sehun forced a smile on his face because no, Jongin didn’t know him, because if he did, he wouldn’t act so cheerful around him. He would probably look at him with pity in his eyes and an uncomfortable smile on his face. He would probably not know what to say to him, if he actually knew everything that was going on with him, and Sehun didn’t want that. That was the thing that would kill the sun, and without the sun, nothing would live. Without the sun Sehun wouldn’t want to live. Wouldn’t be able to live.
“Well, I’m going to go get some more beer,” Jongin said and got up from his spot. “I’m gonna go play with the others for a while, you should come too,” he offered, but Sehun declined with a shake of his head. Jongin just shrugged and waved him goodbye which Sehun returned with a slight lift of his hand.
As he watched Jongin walk away, he thought that Jongin really was everything. He was all the good things in one package and the world should revolve around him. He was everything Sehun was not. He was all charisma and good looks with a big and a kind heart. He was caring and loving and generally the sweetest person Sehun had ever met. Sehun was just a tiny star in his galaxy, trying to absorb his light just to be a little better, just to shine at least a little brighter to be worthy to be around the sun.
But Sehun just simply wasn’t worth it.
