Here's a little secret: Although I complain and complain about losing $64 every time I have a day off school (like today)m, there is something secretly delicious about taking a day off from work... I love it becuase the day is mine... becuase I'm not a teacher, there are no worries about missed lessons and ruined plans, and because I am an assistant, I am forced to take the day off... I like it because there are little expectations to a free weekday, unlike weekends, when all sorts of hanging out must be crammed in to take advantage of the two days off. On weekends, there is shopping to do, and lunches to be had, there is time to spend with Tim and friends, church to attend and laundry to do. But on a free weekday, I can read in bed until 10 a.m, and no one bothers me. The phone doesn't ring and there is little anticipation to the day. Want to make some sugar cookies from scratch? Sure, go ahead- there's no agenda for today. There are options- getting out of the house, going for coffee and reading, going to browse at Target or Barnes and Noble, but they're just options, not obligations. Each of these free days, while simultanoeusly fretting me about my finances, also offeres me a luxury of freedom I don't often have in my weekend life. There is an unexpected pleasure hidden in these free days, and I plan on taking advantage of that!!
