Seems like a good time to get back to these conversations on crossover fanfic and books I had with
lachan and
chinawolf and put some recs here ...
As I was saying, I don't just what it is that fascinates me about the Twilight series - except that it's neither Mary Sue incorporated, a.k.a. Bella, nor her pretty control freak husvamp Edward.
I am deeply in love with other characters and/or pairs of the series, namely Alice&Jasper, Emmett, and, most of all, Carlisle.
There is a whole Bellatrix Lestrange Gringotts' vault of precious fanfic on twilighted.net. Well-written, well characterized, some of them hold-my-aching-tummy funny, other achingly-beautiful stories of drama and loss.
One I recently stumbled about and love to pieces is
"Making Edward", a really, really well thought out crossover between post-DH (about 6 or 7 years past the big Hogwards battle and fall of Voldemort) and pre-Twilight Twilight (as in: happens before Bella comes to Forks). A touch of Severus/Hermione, no mention of Ron. Harry only gets a cameo appearance.
Severus? Post-Hogwarts battle? Huh? - Yes. As I was saying, it works.
There's also the point that Edward Cullen's actor was playing a ... not quite unimportant... role in HP Goblet of Fire. See the point of connection already? (The cover photo might give you a hint or a million.) - If not, let yourself be surprised. Just give it a shot.
And as for the book I was carrying with me (to make the S-Bahn trip shorter), it was book 4 in the
Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer. That is one series I absolutely adore. There's a teenage criminal genius who obviously compels my Slytherin mind, even though he tends to be an overbearing, arrogant know-it-all most of the time. You can't help admiring him, though. My favourite characters are, again, the sidekicks: Butler, his awesome body guard, and Holly Short, Leprechaun LEPrecon captain, the kick-ass elf officer.
There's techno-magic, a brilliant fantasy and sci-fi mix, combined with crime and loads of action.
Book 7 has become available in April, and I'm reading up the older books in preparation for the new one.
Yes, that is advisable. Also, very, very entertaining.
