Sometimes, a weekend off is really the best thing for your sanity.

Then again, for me it only really works when the weekend is productive, since otherwise I feel like I've wasted it.

On Saturday, I: deposited three checks (including one from November), got quarters for laundry, went to the library and checked out Percival's Planet (fictionalized account of the discovery of Pluto; good so far), practiced French horn, ran through my talk for group meeting on Monday, and went to the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art with Glen.

Today, I: took two buses about 45 minutes out of town to go to the mall, where I bought a new suit jacket and two nice shirts, read for awhile, did laundry, cleaned the innards of my French horn (which I should have done a couple of years ago...), and talked to my parents on the phone.

All this productivity is mostly occasioned by the fact that on Wednesday, I start my lit seminar. You're given three weeks in which you're not expected to do any research to prepare and give a 45-minute seminar on some current topic in the literature. I'm actually quite excited, because for some sick reason I really enjoy making powerpoint presentations. My tentative topic is going to be intermetallic clathrate compounds, hopefully focusing on their potential thermoelectric capabilities.
