I was supposed to spend this weekend in Maryland, at the Chesapeake Bay at my family reunion. I took a 2.5-hr bus ride to the airport in Milwaukee yesterday afternoon. I then waited in the airport for four hours to board my plane two hours late. After we boarded, I waited for an hour and a half for them to tell us that there was flooding on the runways from the torrential rains we'd had all day, and that the flight was cancelled. I then waited in line for an hour to get rebooked to leave this afternoon, spent $150 on a hotel room in downtown Milwaukee (since the airport hotels were all booked), and fell asleep. Today, I spent $30 on a cab back to the airport, only to find out that my flight had been cancelled again and that, once things started moving out of the Milwaukee airport this afternoon, everything was booked solid through Monday. I then spent two hours waiting for the bus, and then took another 2.5-hr bus ride back to Milwaukee. My boyfriend and roommate are both gone for the weekend, and I just wasted probably the last day off I'll have until Thanksgiving in the fucking Milwaukee airport. As soon as I'm done with grad school, I'm moving as close to my family as possible and never flying anywhere again.
