Hi!!
Happy 2006! Yay, a whole new year!! Anybody make any good New Year's Resolutions? I did! This year I'm actually going to study. But, yeah, right now I'm watching the New York Philharmonic's Gala New Year's Eve Concert on PBS. It's good!
Anyway, thought I'd give you a little update on life in general. We flew down to Orlando on Christmas Day and spent about a week there relaxing with family. We headed to the beach on Wednesday and picked up some cool seashells and took some really neat pictures! On Thursday, we all went on a walk through a nature preserve thing. I don't have the pictures yet, but I got to hold a giant grasshopper!!! She was quite content to sun herself on my hand for a good five minutes or so, and then I put her down. She was very cool!! And yes, I know it was a she, because our guide told us that only the females of that species get so large. Anyway, pictures coming soon. Then we went back to the museum-ish thing, and there we got to touch an alligator's tail, and I got to hold a snake! It was so cool!! On Friday, we spent the day at Animal Kingdom (the whole family!!!) and had an awesome time there! There was something for everyone, from the little little kids to the adults. It was all great!!! Anyway. Today, or rather, yesterday if we're going to get technical about this, I was in Orlando enjoying warm sunshine and summer-like weather. It was rather surreal to see Christmas lights on palm trees, but at the moment, it's surreal for me to be in the US and not in Russia. In any case, we flew back today to Michigan...and for those of you in Michigan, you know how...um...disappointing...the weather is. I like snow, I really do, but I like snow better when it comes with sunshine, and not the permacloud that Michigan has. Oh well!
Schedule of events for the next week or so: wisdom teeth out on the 3rd, school starts on the 9th. I need to buy books, shoes, and a few other things somewhere in there and get ready for a full semester. I'll be taking 17 credits this coming semester, plus The Anthology, plus maintaining my Russian skills, plus reading linguistics stuff. And of course, church stuff! Anyway, I'll be busy, but I think everything will be fine. My semester in Russia was fairly free of responsibility, and that was not good for me, because when I don't have enough to do, I get really lazy. The trick is finding that crazy little line between busy enough and over-busy. Hopefully this semester will work out well! Will keep you updated as the semester goes on.
I think that's all for now. The New York Phil concert is over, I'm tired from all the travelling, and I really need some sleep. Anyway, I'll write more later in the year. I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday, and that the New Year gets off to a really wonderful start! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!
