Wow. It's been a while. I've gone places and done things and even updated WHILE ON a vacation, but not ABOUT said vacation. Oops. :P
Any mentioned photo ops WILL be scanned and then I'll edit this post to include them, but it's late and I'm lazy right now.
So. First things first.
Went to VanCon again last year for the last Vancouver Stargate con. I took the train this year so I wouldn't have to drive. Went on a tour of Rogers Arena (yay Canucks!). I got to go on the Stargate location tour (UBC has an amazing campus, FYI! [also it's Shanks' old stompin' grounds]) and I got to see Paul again. Made "friends" with Dan Payne and Alexx Zahara. I won a bunch of stuff at Stargate trivia.
I had wanted to go to both ChiCon and Dragon*Con, but only had money for ChiCon. I'd worked for 3 months straight (I had about a week or so off total) only to find out I was going to be $700 short for Dragon*Con. Which really sucked because my birthday was on Parade Day this year. And then, two weeks after I realized that I wasn't going to have to money for Dragon*Con, I found out that Richard Dean Anderson was going to be there. On my birthday. I cried for 2 hours. Found out later that he was going to do a charity walk in Los Angeles in December, so I signed up for that instead.
I went to ChiCon in August. Finished a sketch for Paul McGillion quite literally RIGHT before I had to leave for the airport. Met some AWESOME people in the hotel lobby while I waited for my roomie's plane to get in (she had the credit card that the room was booked on. Oops). Dan and Alex remembered me! (because of my hair :P) I got to have a photo op with them. And Robert Picardo. Rode an elevator with Cliff Simon (GUH!), had breakfast with Dan and Alex, photo op with Cliff Simon (more GUH!) Photo op(s) with Paul McGillion! Yay! Meet and Greet with Michael Shanks. When they were taking the group photo at the end of the meet and greet, I ended up next to Shanks. I remember telling him that I had a good spot because he was warm and I was freezing (I was cold he entire weekend... mostly from anxiety over certain other people being at the con). Asked Shanks what he thought Daniel's favorite childhood memory was. He said "going to Disneyland with the other orphans." Snarky, lovable bastard. :P My roomie had brought a set-worn Carson Beckett costume that Paul McGillion actually wore and she let me try it on. Heeeee, I got into Carson's pants! XD
I gave Paul the sketch of Carson Beckett that I'd done for him (the one I finished right before I left for the airport). He loved it. And he kissed my hand. :3
I gave Shanks the Daniel!sketch, but he didn't have room for it in his suitcase, so it came back home with me. He did like it tho! ^_^
December I flew down to LA to visit my BFF and her husband. We did tourist-y things ALL over LA, a good majority of which were MacGyver-related. We toured Warner Bros and Paramount, saw a Stanley Kubrick exhibit at LACMA, went to the La Brea Tar Pits and even found a "Hobbit House." I had my first comic shop experience. Bought the first two MacGyver comics, some SG-1 comics, and Iron Man action figure and a Hawkeye action figure for
saxihighlandck. Because Hawkeye. Went to the charity walk and met Richard Dean Anderson (swoon)! I had him sign my new SG-1 comic and got a picture with him (HE HAD HIS ARM AROUND ME). I was so proud of myself for not crying all over him. XP Then BFF, her hubby and I went to Griffith Park and rode the Merry-Go-Round (it was on MacGyver. :P) and then went to the Observatory (also on MacGyver in the Pilot) and saw a show in the planetarium. On one of the days, we went to the science center and saw the space shuttle Endeavor. I cried a little. And then we had dinner in Chinatown at Foo Chow Restaurant (MacGyver filmed outside :P). The food was delicious, but they played the same song on repeat (just that song) for the entire time we were there. At one point we had the melody memorized (I still do a little). That trip was a lot of fun. Not only did I get to hang out with my BFF and go do some epic sight-seeing, but I met RICHARD DEAN ANDERSON.
katxander made me an ADORABLE Cawsin Bekkitt dollie. (and he has his own wee Wodnee dowwee!) Thanks again SOOOO much! I love my wee baybees! *cuddles them close* ^_^
Just last weekend I went to Emerald City Comic Con. (all three days this time!) Got a photo op with Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton and then had Felicia sign it. I got a photo op with Paul McGillion. When I walked up to him, he did a double take and then said "oh my god Katt!" and pulled me into a big hug. Paul McGillion remembered me BY NAME. He did another double take when I held up wee Cawsin + Wodnee for the photo and he said "oh my gosh, it's me!" So Cawsin and Wodnee got to be in a photo with Paul! The next day I dressed up as steampunk!Danielle Jackson. :) I got my photo op with Paul signed (he said that I get more adorable each time he sees me and signed my photo with "Pauly". Just "Pauly" because, he says, that's what his friends call him! :3), and he took a picture of me and the baybees. After a long line, I got my photo taken with Sir Patrick Stewart. Such a lovely gentleman. Got my photo with Shanks. :D Went to Lexa's panel. She's so much fun. I love her.
Went to Shanks' panel. I got up and asked him if he thought Daniel Jackson was anywhere on the Asperger's/Autism spectrum. Shanks leaned forward to his microphone and said "he is." Ahhh! He confirmed my theory! I'm sorry, but I'm going to take a moment to gloat here: **MICHAEL SHANKS CONFIRMED MY "DANIEL JACKSON HAS ASPERGER'S" THEORY!!!**
XP
Got a front row seat for Paul's panel! Yay Paul! At the end of the panel, Paul was gathering stuff up and the lady next to me randomly asked him if he had any pets. He said no, but that he used to have a cat. I piped up "yay cats!" and Paul looked straight me, smirked, and said "I love cats[Katts ;)]"
Got some stuff signed by Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick for
saxihighlandck. I went back the next day and had Fraction sign one of the Hawkeye comics that Sarah sent me for xmas. (Thank you, bb! <333)
The last day kind of went to shit, honestly. The "Minions" had no idea what was going on with photo op lines. I got my pic with Lexa and then one with Lexa and Shanks. I'd brought the badges that they signed for my bday at Dragon*Con with me for them to hold up in the pic and I also had a Canucks banner with me. Because Canucks. It made Shanks chuckle. Was going to get a second photo with Paul, because hey, why not. Minions told us to go wait "over there" and they'd let us know when the line officially started. Only tey never let us know. So after a bit we asked about his line and they said he was done. I nearly cried. We got refunds and then went to talk to Paul. He was shocked to hear that we missed his photo op so he let us take pics with him for free next to his autograph table. He's such a sweetheart.
Went to the Stargate panel. LOADS of fun. Surprise visit from Alexis Cruz! :D At the end, Paul, with the help of Shanks (I thought Shanks talked fast as Daniel, but you should hear his "auctioneer speak" :P) auctioned of some Stargate: Atlantis scripts. They went for about $800 each with the proceeds to be donated to Children's Hospital.
Had my photo op with Shanks signed as well as my Daniel Jackson collectible plate. Chatted a bit more with Shanks about my "Daniel Jackson has Asperger's theory. Everything I brought up he agreed with. He looked disbelieving when I told him how much grief I'd gotten over the theory (that I really only mentioned the one time as an aside.) and that some people had disagreed so vehemently about it. Like, he actually seemed confused that they didn't see it.
I gave him a "new and improved" copy of my "Why Daniel Jackson is the Key to Reality As We Know It" flowchart. He got a kick out of it.
Went to check if my Lexa and Lexa + Shanks photo ops had printed. The Lexa one had, but not the one with the both of them (at this point it had been a little over 2 hours since the photo op). Boo. Had Lexa sign the single photo op. She saw my name when she was signing and looked up at me and asked "Are you the one who made the flowchart? That was hilarious!" She complimented my pink hair and showed me pics of her son on her phone with his pink and later blue hair. She and Shanks were both excited to see that I had saved their Dragon*Con badges and they each gave me a big hug.
Went to check AGAIN if that last photo had printed, but alas. So I asked if they were going to finish printing them anytime soon because they'd basically stopped printing anyone else's and were focused on printing the Misha Collins photos. They had me go talk to the people who were in charge of selling the photo op tickets to ask about getting it printed right then. Turns out that I could have done this AT ANY TIME. This would have been nice to know, oh, an hour earlier? I'd wanted to get it signed by Shanks and Lexa. It didn't end up signed, but it turned out pretty awesome! :)
Now, my plans are to figure out if I can drive up to a con in Vancouver to see Sean Astin and Sean Patrick Flanery and/or go see Richard Dean Anderson in Dallas. And then in August spend three weekends at ChiCon, Fan Expo in Toronto and Dragon*Con. Lots of things to consider for that though.
And, just to say it again: **MICHAEL SHANKS CONFIRMED MY "DANIEL JACKSON HAS ASPERGER'S" THEORY!!!**
;P
