Unpopular opinion? Probably.

The more I think about it, the less I see the Jack/Sam and Daniel/Vala relationships actually working out. And I’m not just saying this as a Jack/Daniel shipper. I just don’t think that they would be healthy long-term relationships ( Read more... )

Of course you know I am in a similar position with J/D as my OTP, but I am open to all the delicious pairings and more that Stargate has to offer. I do struggle at times to see the chemistry between Jack/Sam translated on screen (fic writers (well some) do a much better job IMO). I think in that particular instance in Nemesis, the focus on Sam's indecision overrode any decent shippy aspect to the scene and it came off as quite awkward indeed. Now being a massive Jack & Sam friend shipper, I feel it works wonders in that sense because how many times has Jack wanted to help Sam chillax? *g ( ... )

Daniel & Vala. You're one of the few people that know this, but I guess I will bite the bullet and share with all and sundry...and your flist, that early on when I started watching the show, Daniel was my least favourite character. I found him to be very self absorbed, hindering Jack's effectiveness as leader and causing tension that could have been handled differently. Since of course I have caught up and seen all of the episodes and have come to understand why Daniel behaves the way he does and how it can be a damn good thing too. Daniel is perfectly imperfect ( ... )

Basically all of what you said is what I was trying to say.

I have no problem with other people shipping Jack/Sam or Daniel/Vala. I just personally don't see them quite the same way.

And that I completely understand. I don't know any of my fandom friends whom I see eye to eye with on everything and I very much prefer it that way. Some of my earliest friends in the fandom were Jack/Sam shippers, just because that was the prevalent pairing at the time. That has since shifted of course and we have this lovely myriad of relationships to explore.

LOL Jack was my least fave when I started S1, until "Secrets" in S2. There's that one scene where Jack looks at the screen (Selig, ostensibly) and I wanted him IN MY BED NAO. Sexy mofo.

Basically, I sail all the 'ships because reading fanfic about the different ways various pairings hook up enhances my appreciation of the series. The canonical Team dynamic facilitates such stories, more so than when I was active in The X-Files fandom, where Scully & Mulder & Krycek & Skinner were always at odds with each other.

Secrets Jack putting on his sunglasses/schmoosing at the party/snarking at the bar, niiice! I can't even remember exactly what drew me to Jack in the first place, I didn't even realise he was MacGyver until a year or so afterwards, lol!

I remember The X Files having quite a bit of Mulder/Krychek around?

It took me several re-watchings to gather all the layers going on between Sam/Jack in Nemesis, but the interpretation I'm most comfortable with is that Sam just couldn't believe what Jack was asking until he'd left the room, and was wondering about the best way to accept without blowing their cover, & to let Jack have 1 more opportunity to offer, SO HE CALLS HER SNOOKUMS. And she's gonna accept -- then Thor cock-blocks him.

That's when I started 'shipping Thor/Jack pretty hard. ;D

It was actually a relief for me in "Divide & Conquer" that Jack & Sam confessed their non-regulation attachment to each other for that specific mission, because if the interrogation had occurred much later, around Jack & Daniel in "Evolution", there'd've been a different secret for Janet, Teal'c & Anise to keep.

Sam & Jack hooking up after her command of the Hammond seems the best time for them to develop a successful relationship.

Thor is not as innocent as he appears. (also he is jealous as fuck). ;)

Who knows how long Sam is going to be commanding The Hammond for? (Or is there something in season 2 of SGU I don't know?) I have seen a few works tackle the idea that they tried a little something while Sam was stationed at Area 51 (long distant relationship, wee! *snerk*) which plays off the angst.
