Dear A'son,
I finished reading the best book this seven. Louvaen sort of gave it to me, only not really. He got it out of Records and gave it to me for the bead from my abacus when the Candidates were doing the Scavenger Hunt but it's really /our/ book, I mean the Weyr's.
Anyway, I finished it today and we put it back in Records and talked about it a bit. It's a really sad story about a whole hold that dies in a really bad plague and this dragonrider that traveled through time to try to stop it, only she just couldn't but she's immune to the plague and so at the end she's the only one left to remember the people who passed. If you can find it at Ista, it's a really beautiful but sad story and the harper who wrote it wrote it /really/ well.
Lou's recommended some other stuff, history but with some sensible romance and mayhem and murder in the stories and though I'm a little leery about the romance part, I'll bet the mayhem is /really/ fun. It's nice to have good things to read. We're so lucky the harpers were writing so much more during the first part of the Interval when there wasn't any Thread. Stupid Thread. I wish it would /go away/.
Anyway, I hope that the settling in at Ista is going well and that your weyr really rocks and all your stuff fits and your bed is comfortable and the heat isn't bugging you too much. The eggs are really, really, really hard here and they're saying pretty much any day now, so we're starting to get stuff ready for the feast already, you know the stuff you /can/ get ready a bit in advance and making sure everything's ordered and in stock.
I think the Candidates are getting pretty restless at this point. You know, the whole, not knowing thing. Waiting. Waiting and waiting and getting on edge with waiting. Seems that way anyhow. So we're trying to keep them busy with chores and fun stuff, sporting events and the like. We're even having a big party on the beach at Tillek in five days. I hope the eggs hatch soon. I'll bet some of the Candidates will stay, but a lot of them will go home and nineteen of them will be Weyrlings and I'daur gets to take care of them. I mean, we still have to keep them supplied and all that, but /I/ won't be in charge of them directly anymore. It'll kind of be like a little vacation.
So anyway, I was thinking that maybe I could come down to Ista then. You know. After the Hatching. For a vacation. I'll bet I can get two days off from Hayda. Would it be okay if I came down for that long? I'd stay in the dorms of course.
Anyway.
