Dear Yuletude Writer,
I'd like to start by saying that this is my first time so apologies for any hiccups - whether you're a seasoned participant and find that I'm all over the place or you're as new as I am to this lovely tradition and I manage to confuse you even more than you already are. Feel free to get in touch... indirectly... if there's anything further you'd like from me.
This is probably not so different from the prompts but I hope you find the little extra details helpful.
So, onwards!
Baccano
Characters: Chane, Isaac, and Miria
You can do Chane on her own or Isaac and Miria on their own - all three don't have to appear in the story simultaneously or interact.
I'll just list the stuff I'd like to avoid: explicit sexual content, graphic violence and character death.
Apart from that feel free to write whatever strikes your fancy. I guess I'm just looking to see well loved characters in fresh situations - a day in the life or a place smacking of befuddling but somehow fitting upon reflection choices like the gold mine Isaac and Miria went to or the middle of a fight or the aftermath of it or that stealing the house heist or the spontaneous wedding dress up or whatever else you feel is fitting. How do you think the two contrast as women? How might they act in similar situations? Any interesting sides to Isaac and Miria together? Haha, I'm sorry if I end up sounding like an English teacher - these are just to get to thinking, not set in stone.
These three are the ones who I wanted to know the most about when the anime ended so you can go every which way - canon compliant, canon divergent AU, what-if's... would be great if you could write them/her in a situation which is not the norm for them. Something thoughtful or sweet or touching or fun or melancholic in tone, it'd be lovely if a small part of the story could carry these emotions if possible. I'm alright with gen as well as romance. Most of all I hope you have a blast writing our beloved pair and lady assassin - if my suggestions interfere with that please feel free to chuck them out of the window.
A Single Man
Characters: Jim, George
A day in the life of these two would be great. Not when they were young - sometime before Jim's death. See if you can show us something unexpected, a situation which really brings out the colours of these two and their relationship. I'd appreciate it if you could avoid making the encounter/plot solely about society's attitudes to homosexuality. Obviously it has to be part of it but it's something I've read and experienced a million times. Something which is chock full of feeling without teetering into sentimentality. Perhaps an exploration of love in established relationships? It could be a drive/a visit to the parents/a holiday/an anniversary/birthday/what have you. Feel free to pick whatever.
Dramatic irony is fantastic, you can weave in flashforwrads or flashbacks if you feel that they could contribute to the story. I mean to say even though I've specified a chunk of time, there's no need to stick to it only.
As for stuff I'd like to avoid: explicit sexual content and graphic violence.
Old Kingdom (Garth Nix)
Characters: Any
Pick whomever you like and in whatever verse - just something whose central focus isn't romance/character study. I'd love to see some action in whatever sense. Lots of magic. Something which can make a nineteen year old relive the joy of reading the series at 14. I think what I'm asking is for you to take all the themes and features which make the series for you, which you adore, find utterly interesting or moving and combinations thereof and bring them together for a fresh look at the series. Even a small glimpse would do. I'd love it for it to be very vivid and dense with both lore and emotion without being sentimental or dry. I don't mind if it ends up as gen or includes any pairing slash or otherwise. Focus on the ladies would be lovely.
I haven't gotten round to reading the latest so no spoilers please. Update: Clariel is read, so that's alright too now. Apologies for being an ass!
If any of this feels like a straitjacket, disregard as required.
As for stuff to avoid: explicit sexual content, graphic violence and character death.
Again I'm so sorry if I overwhelmed you, it's exciting enough for me to get a story, you don't have to feel bound by my words.
