While I was in Australia, I got one of those cards that let you ring overseas at a good rate. (It's not a 'phone card; 'phone cards are the things you insert into public 'phones.) I never used it up, and it expires in a month or two. Since my calls o/s tend to be long, it's one of the ones where you pay A$0.50 or so per call, but then bugger all per minute (like, two or three cents). You can ring anywhere on it, but the one I chose is best for ringing the U.S.
I'm posting the number here. I don't care who actually uses it, or if it gets used at all. If you try this and there's no credit left on it, then other people beat you to it. =) It makes no difference to me-I've already paid for it, and I can't get the unused portion back.
The access numbers are:
Sydney:(02) 8212 2200
Melbourne:(03) 9012 2200
Birsbane:(07) 3105 8877
Gold Coast:(07) 5640 0999
Elsewhere:1800 988 688 (costs more than the local numbers)
When it asks for the PIN, enter 1253 4183 3829 and then press the hash key. Then dial the number you want, e.g. 0011 1 415 555 6789 (a fictitious number in San Francisco that a Hollywood film would use. =) )
Have fun.
