Things I have learned:

If I comment to my dad before I leave the house "Oh I'm only doing appointments until 9:30am and I don't have surgeries because the boss is doing pediatrics, so I should be home on time/early!", I am going to get an "emergency" case.

Two weeks ago: Dog that was fine the night before is now acutely weak/ataxic on his hindlimbs.

Yesterday: Sick cat that had been missing for two days was found face-down in the garden, and I diagnosed it with urinary blockage because it's bladder was MASSIVELY distended.

The first case I probably spent like an hour conducting my neurological exam and trying to find pain and freaking out about whether to send it to a specialist or not, given the owner's cost concerns. The second case took me two hours to get a urinary catheter into the bladder and then flush it out until the fluid coming out wasn't a horrible bloody mess. It was terrifying because the cat was so ill and I was nervous about him going into cardiac arrest. AUGH!

I think I will learn to love my job in two years. Right now, I am just PANIC PANIC PANIC about everything I see, haha.
