inspired by my lost-ness

As of now I am pretty sad and lost, which I guess I used as an inspiration of sorts for english homework. We had to write a poem that uses alliterative verse (anglo-saxen type stuff, old-english poetry, think beowulf). It started pretty sad but turned out to be what I think is funny, as you don't know what the guy is talking about until the end, and it humorously plays off of some old english/germanic tribe themes.

The Great Dane

A steady song he sung in mourning
For where in all woe can wounds so deep heal
Seeking solace solely in the star-bed
Peering to the perfect sky praying for his princess.
Where had home gone? the love he held in his heart
Though distance dared not defeat the lad’s demeanor
And he gripped the grain and gone about his journey
Swinging it strong he swore to stay
On this path of pride prepared for peril
Accepting an exit excruciating, may it come
For when he finally found his fuzzy-friend he sought
Days of despair were destined to be done
Dead or damned he felt without his Dane dog
