He never once asked about Haruno Sakura.
But it might be out of kindness or pity, when they still told him that:
From Naruto's hungry ramblings:
cotton-candies, pale snow cones and melting mints.
From Yamanaka's female perspective:
blooming carnations, weeping snowdrops and budding sprigs.
From Lee's passionate eulogies:
pale dawn lights, bright sea luster and soft firefly glows.
All he sees are the shades of white.

"Can I borrow one?"
Sakura asks him, innocent at five. The question was more wispy than mumbled, face almost hiding behind the strands of white. He knows that she is always timid and almost terrified of anything, again proven when she glances at her plastic case filled with only a half-shaven pencil and three broken crayons, then back at the complete eight-colored set in front of him.
Sasuke stares at the outstretched hand, merely inches away from touching his shoulder.
(this is the first time he learns of bravery)
Her other hand is on her paper, tainted with pictures of a gray sky, a black sun and shaded copses of trees. It lacked the flowers that usually adorned the small little plots surrounding the school windows.
The sound of shuffling and humming stops as Naruto realizes the scene on their small table. Wide eyes merely stares at them both, unable to finish his childish masterpiece: squiggly lines floating in a ceramic bowl.
Naruto still looks, as if waiting for something to happen.
(For him to explode at her? For him to lash out? Or to ignore her?
He can still remember when they had fought over something, when Naruto and his dumb mouth pointed it out when they were playing on the sandbox about the sky, the sun and the bright pail. That he cannot see the difference between the dripping black on his mouth, nor the blushes of gray that marred their faces.)
"Um, U-" She says, after a few awkward seconds. "Sasuke-kun?"
Rolling the waxes beneath his palm, he reads the bold letters slowly in each turn, silently forming the word in his mind that held no meaning.
He holds it out in between them.
"Here."
His first color was her smile.
