konayuki nee kokoro made shiroku somerareta nara
futari no kodoku wo tsutsunde sora ni kaesu kara...
If the snow powder may whiten deep to our heart
It will cover both our loneliness and return it to the sky...
--Konayuki by Remioromen
It was something that she would like to be frozen forever in time
(but miracles don't happen, they never do.)
Fragile, wisp-like and faint, they floated from the sky like light frozen tears.
It was truly cold. They were on the cracked pavement, walking slowly, as if they waited for the winter to end. The fine, grated white ice beneath their boots scattered as they continued their slow strides.
(Awkward fingers--nearly brushing, almost caressing--hung on their sides, as they sustained their relaxed pace.)
They were standing here in the middle of a bustling crowd, but she never heard anything but those soft foot falls against the snow-covered asphalt. It seemed that every pair of eyes was not seeing them, in that instant where humanity seemed to forget their existence.
She whispered a nervous Sasuke-kun? as he asked an impatient Hn?
The world faltered to move on its rhythm and cream flakes fell on them as he finally stopped.
It made her believe that all of these, her and him, were part of an illusion.
(And she knew, that maybe it was.)
The ends of her frayed, cropped hair slightly swayed along the movement of her reaching hand, her green spring eyes--
(Ironic, ironic, she muses that she loves winter so much. Too much.)
--meeting his grey, almost coal irises.
(like the winter mist, bitter and obscure).
Their breaths mingled, lingered as they turned into subliming clouds that followed the rise and fall of their chests.
Her leather, worn-down glove hands brushed off the flakes from his raven strands.
He was a traitor. She was a soldier.
Enemies.
But in this moment--
(this single moment that would probably give her more reasons why she needed to shed more tears and fight )
--everything felt perfect.
Their reality was only a lie.
Next winter?
And then she hoped, she tried to smile and managed to make it true.
Because he inclined his head and he finally saw her.
Aa.
And the clandestine magic that the blinding winter brought her was gone, as he finally vanished, lost in a sea of people and a swift wind filled with powdered snow.
There will be a next time.
