And no, it didnt hurt!
How well do you know your Grandparents, those of you that still have them?
My Granda died last year, I knew him probably least out of all my Grandparents, yet I still thought I knew him pretty well. I guess that I did...for the years that I was alive. Its only really hit me today that my Grandparents are all getting to that age where they wont be around for too much longer (though I pray that they have a lot left in them yet). All of them lived through the war, all of them had lives before the war...I know so very little of this life.
These are people just two rungs up the ladder from us, two generations apart. Why do we know so little of them? We dont we take the time to find out more before its too late? I just learned today that my Gran's sister was only her half sister. So my Great Grandmother was pregnant when she met her husband in the late 1800's. My Grandmother worked for two very wealthy people before the war as a housekeeper. The wife died and the husband blew his brains out...my Grandmother found them. How did I never know this?
That generation doesnt talk about things, our generation doesnt ask about things and then its too late. Its wrong.
For my part, its about time I fixed that. I need to know more about these people I've loved all my life.
In other news, I went to the pictures by myself today. It was surprisingly unawkward and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Saw History of Violence, which was very good. If you're at all interested in reading my thoughts on the film, check them out here:
