Summary: Finally archiving it here, whoops. Written for joey_fraser for Christmas.

Denmark, as the other Scandinavian countries discovered over the years, had an unfortunate predilection towards tinsel.

It might not have been so bad if Denmark had kept it to himself, but he also had the unfortunate tendency to drag whomever he could into decorating with him. Norway tended to suffer the most, if only because he had the most patience for dealing with Denmark in the first place. In the end, they'd all learned to recognize the shape of 'tinsel' on Denmark's mouth, with ready excuses to get away.

Tinsel, though, wasn't really an enemy that could be conquered by an army of one.

"Icelaaaand," Denmark wheedled, from his tangled position amidst bits of shiny metal. "Help an old buddy old chum, eh?"

Iceland didn't even register his plea, which was really unfair. And akin to kicking a man while he was down, Denmark thought. Well! He was a great man! He could figure out his way through the tinsel knots, come hell or high water. (He ignored the fact he hadn't been able to last year, or the year before either.) Christmas spirit! And once the tinsel was done he could get on to slaughtering the pig.

As soon as the tinsel was done...

Outside, Sweden executed the Christmas pork with all the efficiency of a man of household. "Done," he grunted. Iceland nodded in reply and hefted the corpse over his shoulder; much as he got along with Finland, he wasn't planning on leaving the cooking to the man. There was the feeling though, as he told Finland to set the table for four and began chopping, that he was forgetting something. Or someone. He went over the guest list in his head again. 'Myself, Norway, Sweden, Finland-- right, Sealand was carried away by that England.'

That solved that problem.

And things were going well, until Norway began portioning food onto a second plate, near the end of the meal. "It's for Denmark," Norway said, when he found himself at the ends of multiple curious glances. The name had the effect of a verbal bomb as awkward silence suddenly ruled the table, though Norway hardly seemed to notice at all.

"Hahaha, right, Denmark," Finland muttered. Even if he didn't show it, Iceland felt much the same way Finland sounded, and was envying Sweden for his cool. There was a distinctly unrepentent - and to be honest, vaguely terrifying - look on Sweden's face that was the byproduct of long ignoring Danish presence.

"I'll go see if he's finished with the tinsel," Norway said, and with that he left the table.

Norway found Denmark still ensnared in tinsel when he came out with dinner. "You!" Denmark cried when he saw him, and again, more cheerfully when he noticed the food, "You! I love you. Haha! I'll finish in a moment." The past most of the day, though, would be a series of 'in a moment's then, as Norway knew, and so he set the plate down and went to go help.

Even with two hands, it was still messy work. "Next time, leave the tinsel at home."

"Blasphemy!" Denmark's sudden upraised fist nearly upset all their progress.

Norway merely rolled his eyes, and wished Denmark a happy Christmas.
