trimgular. Taking place some time in the future, just a slice of quiet for Yamamoto and Gokudera both.
"You're still awake?"
Gokudera cursed at the interruption, dropped the tools he'd been working with. They clattered to the desk-- shit, he said again, before he regarded the intruder perched on his window sill. "The hell are you doing there?" he asked, the annoyance in his tone obvious.
Yamamoto laughed unabashedly. "It was the fastest way up," as if that explained everything. To the swordsman, it probably did, and Gokudera had given up trying to figure the other man out, or throwing derisive remarks when he couldn't. It was the mature thing, after all. (Haha, getting used to me, huh? No.) "How's Tsuna?"
"Fine." Of course. "He's sleeping."
And Yamamoto's expression was warm and radiating approval, soft that Gokudera almost forgot the man was still sitting in his window, that he hadn't noticed Yamamoto's presence in the first place until the man had spoken. "That's good. You should sleep too." His protest was cut off before he could utter it. "There are other people that can watch him, too."
But they couldn't do it as well as he could. (That was untrue, too, but he permitted himself these little fantasies sometimes.) Finally, he said, "Ch', get inside first, at least," which wasn't exactly conceding but wasn't not, either. Yamamoto laughed and moved closer. So near now, Yamamoto smelled of blood and smoke, and if any of the blood was his, Gokudera would kill the idiot preemptively for worrying Tenth.
Yamamoto allowed Gokudera's hands their concern, though he assured, "None of it's mine." They couldn't be too careful - or so Gokudera claimed - and really, Yamamoto didn't mind. When Gokudera backed away, satisfied, Yamamoto stepped to the door. "Go to sleep," he said. "I'll join you after I've washed up."
"I don't need you to tuck me in," Gokudera groused back. But he didn't refuse, when Yamamoto slipped beside him.
