So, last week at work was pretty rough. I was catching up on things, and a bunch of new matters came in... so I was setting my alarm for 1:30am somedays. I was usually at my desk by 3:15am or 3:30am, and heading home after 6pm. I was tired. That week is over, thank goodness.
And then, yesterday, I had LASIK. Well, LASIK in my right eye, and PKT (which is basically the same thing, but when you have a thin cornea) in my left eye. My magic healing powers have kicked in again. While the recover time for LASIK has significantly shorted to days if not hours, a person can have pain, discomfort, feelings of grit and dirt, etc. in the eye for weeks after PKT. You have to wear a contact on your eye 24/7 for 7 days to help the cornea heal. When I got home, I followed the doctor's advice and kept my eyes shut for about 4 hours (A "nap" from 6:30pm to 10:30pm). After that, I put the drops in my eyes, and then "napped" until 4:30am. Ha!
My eyes! The goggles, they do nothing!
I didn't need a week for the PKT eye shield. I needed 12 hours. [laughs]. The doctor at my follow-up this morning looked at my eyes and said "wow, you heal fast." And... no need to wear the contact. I live a charmed life, sometimes. I've had no dry eyes, itchiness, gritty feelings, pain or any adverse effect from the surgeries. My eyes are still cloudy, but my vision is already noticeably better than it should have been after just a day. My right eye is progressing faster than my left. I've been told the left eye is going to take awhile (up to a few weeks for the cloudiness to go away) because PKT is a bit more invasive, and my eyesight will take about 3-6 months to fully resolve at whatever my new level will be.
In other news, friends from Minnesota are visiting! Yay!
Mike and Jake
Mike and Jake are having a boys weekend in Chicago. Sadly I haven't been able to see them much because my eye surgery has required me to stay home and keep my eyes shut. Somehow, they got along. This photo is from 5am when they got home after a night of fun and demanded I make them Ramen. [sighs] [giggles]
John and Bilas
I couldn't play volleyball today but I did watch. Sadly, John pulled a leg muscle real bad. Bilas came over to sit and check in on him and I just love the expressions on both their faces.
Bilas smacks it hard.
Dusty and me. I'm blind, but smiling.
Dusty just moved to Chicago, and he stopped by to watch my team play volleyball. He's a sweetie and glad that after he's a neighbor now.
