Yesterday, John's closing went without any problems.  He's officially sold his condo in Springfield, Illinois.  To celebrate, we bought an $11.99 bottle of wine (a spicy Malbec) and had a lovely dinner of pupusas at a Guatemalan restaurant over in Lincoln Square.

I joked with a friend of mine this is all happening so fast, and I'm too young to have a live-in bf already. The joke of course being I never had a serious bf before John, I'm over 40 now, and our relationship has moved at a glacial pace for over four years.  And the relationship has been truly glacial, in the sense that it has inexorably moved forward (with the occasional recession, ahem) but at a rate too small to see with the naked eye!

We're now in a waiting period, of course. Waiting to see what type of full-time job I end up having, so we can move and truly have our own place without a roommate. I think we're both looking forward to discussing how we'll slowly decorate and populate our new place with furniture.  I think we're both old enough to know that we're going to have a few bumps.  We have very different taste in furnishings (as in, mine is good and his is horrible.  No, truly, objectively his taste is horrible, just trust me on this).  Mostly though, it is just the little differences you learn to adjust to over time.

In other news, my work phone died so the firm got me a new one.  Since it has been over two years, they replaced my old iPhone 4 with the iPhone 5.  I love my Apple products, yet I still feel empty inside despite having a new toy. Ugh, I'm a horrible consumer. Things don't make me happy the way they used to, and that makes me feel vaguely unpatriotic.

After four visits, I finally have a new crown for my back right lower molar.  I originally cracked it eating an untoasted bagel. $1500 dollars, a root canal, and several other procedures for related issues... I am finally "happy" again.  As much as one can be spending $1,500 to return my tooth to the effective status quo, anyway.

And finally, there's been some severe rain and flooding in Chicago. I usually wake up a little bit before 5am, and lately I've been taking the 6:20am train so I can be at my desk by 7am.  Today, the switches at the train station went out so I spent almost 50 minutes a mere block from the downtown station just waiting to disembark.  I didn't get to my desk until almost 7:45.

Blame it on the rain!

Somewhat humorously, although John just sold his condo there, we're going to Springfield Illinois this weekend.  A bunch of friends will be converging there, so we'll hang out and have a good time.  Next week starts the Chicago softball season.  I didn't play last season due to an injury, and I'm interested to see how much things will have changed with my (sometimes wobbly) right leg.  It'll be good to be back with the group though and I missed being on the field each Sunday.
