A school year begins without me!

Camp was awesome this past weekend! Everytime I go to U-Nah-Li-Ya, I always ponder why I'm not jumping to go work at a resident camp - I think it's me. . . I had a blast and the kids were great. I think the funniest thing was the counselors we had (myself included) were all people with no full-time jobs in the same boat! Kinda crazy - but my group had fun - I even brought back some of the old camp traditions that have kinda died off because no one wanted to keep them like dreamboats and adventure trips and high ropes. . . I took the kids to Bagley Rapids which (I think if any of the bosses saw) would probably fire us for doing but it's an adventure for the kids. It's basicall a mini rapids going over the rocks similar to downtown Des Plaines dam but with way more drops and not deep at all. . . I think that sometimes people are missing the point to camp and kids and that is getting them involved in doing things that they normally would not have the opportunity to do in their lifetime! It amazes me how much we have to fight to keep our program alive to give kids the opportunity to hike, bike, canoe, shoot BB's and arrows, sing songs, and of course pranking! Who can forget that!

It is kinda weird going to Oakwood still while everyone else I know is starting school. Nonetheless, I think it is time for me to take a rest and have some fun! Fo SURE! Mystic Waters is now a breeze - especially with no lifeguards! sorry - i jsut had to. . . but winterizing Chippewa is weird and of course seeing the kids back in school - I don't think I've ever winterized a pool while school is going on next door!

I am getting myself involved though (I'll have pretty much a full-time lifestyle)! The swim team that uses MW called me back and said they'd be interested in hiring me if I can bring some kids on board. So hopefully I can get that going. I'm also picking up hours at the Leisure Center building supervising in the fall since I doubt Ed can keep me at 40 hours a week for much longer. Speaking of fall - I guess since I'm not at school, it has really escaped me that I have not put up any of the fall stuff at the ALC yet. . . I'm behind!
