Jul 31, 2010 21:47

I start pre-med this year, so I need something that will stop me from pulling my hair out. I'm compiling a list of 200 movies I should watch before my senior year (three years from now). Then, when I'm done, I want to write reviews on the Top 50. I only have 130 listed and am severely lacking in foreign films and documentaries, so I'd really ( Read more... )

I don't know what movies you haven't seen, but I got a few suggestions:

-The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (Humphrey Bogart)
-His Girl Friday (Cary Grant)
-Arsenic and Old Lace (another Cary Grant)
-Miracle on 34th Street (1947 version)
-Rope
-Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
-It Happened One Night (Clark Gable)
-The Thin Man
-The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)
-12 Angry Men (1957)
-North By Northwest
-Singin' In The Rain
-Some Like It Hot
-Harvey (starring Jimmy Stewart)
-The Lion In Winter
-Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
-The Great Escape <--not to be confused with the pop song from a couple years ago, this movie stars Steve McQueen
-Paper Moon
-Young Frankenstein

TV Mini-Series (movie like)
-Band of Brothers
-North & South
-Cranford
-Return to Cranford
-Little Dorrit
-Emma (2009)
-Persuasion (2007)

Also, I will add:

Groundhog Day
Fight Club
Caddyshack

For the pop culture references and hilarity.

I believe that you can get those prompts done by that date. It's just a matter of budgeting your time accordingly :D

I think I can too, I just procrastinate like crazy! It's something I need to work on. Compared to mydoctortennant, this is nothing!

Thank you so much for taking the time to list these. I'll definitely add the ones I haven't seen to the list. YAY :)

It's late so my brain is mush, but here are some suggestions that came to mind (sorry if you've already seen them!):

1. Broadcast News
2. Persepolis
3. City Lights
4. Bell Book and Candle
5. The American President
6. The Postman (Il Postino)
7. Two For the Road
8. Sabrina
9. Water (2005) -- part of the Elements trilogy

What did you think of When Harry Met Sally? It's my favorite film, so I love hearing/reading people's reactions!

(Edited because I just started catching up on my f-list and I noticed you mentioned seeing one of the films I listed. ^^)

Oh wow. I can't believe I forgot some of these! They sound terrific and I can't wait to watch them :)

I think "When Harry Met Sally" is going into my top fifty. I still have loads of movies to see, but I have a feeling it won't be eclipsed. I thought it was brilliant, well paced, and clever. I'm a fan of the old Meg Ryan, so I was attracted to that. She's a really good actress and she and Billy Crystal have this amazing chemistry. At first, I was worried it would be a really hollow film, but it had heart and I was rooting for them the whole time.

In short, I really liked it and will probably be reviewing it when I'm finished watching all the others.

Thanks for your help!

I am ridiculously pleased that you enjoyed WHMS so much! The reasons you listed are exactly why this film is my favorite.

Not a prob! Good luck with your project -- I look forward to hearing more about it! :-D

(Also, forgot to mention: good luck with starting pre-med! I think it's wonderful that you're taking on such a fantastic challenge. A friend of mine is doing pre-med, and while it's definitely a lot of work she is absolutely LOVING it, so hopefully it'll be the same for you. =))
