DARK DAYS (Poem)

“Dark Days”
As the rain poured down so fast and heavy.
The floods started coming to many towns.
The dams were breaking and banks disappearing
The lakes and rivers were over max capacity yet the rains still came
Our once strong bridge crumbled and was swept away.
The angry waters made their path across our roads
Pavement and dirt dropped into the rushing waters and was swept away.
300 feet of road and bridge once there was suddenly gone leaving a hole
It was daylight yet seemed like the dead of night with the sky so black.
The rains kept coming. Flooding houses and businesses.
The fear in people rose, we haven’t seen floods like this before.
Houses tore lose from their foundation and washed along with the water
People from all over coming together to give a helping hand.
Roads, bridges, houses and business flooded and or gone.
There was silence as everyone watched the news to see what was happening
The huge lake close to my house that was overflowing now lays empty.
