You're right in that the evenings don't last as long here as a Scottish summer evening but I think at the point of the actual sun getting low in the sky and that last half an hour of sunset the colours in Australia are far more intense. I did see long sunsets in the UK in summer but never really saw one as amazing or as beautiful as an Aussie sunset !!! Especially when you're at the beach for it like I have been a couple times since returning!
Do you miss the electrical storms by the way? The other night when it was 40 odd degrees there was the most amazing electrical storm - we were watching the cricket at the time and the images of the lightening activity were awesome! All the players subsequently had to get off the field!
Back to the sunsets......Daylight savings in Perth has made the evenings somewhat longer - again not as long as Scotland but with the heat here you wouldn't want the evening to be as long anyways - funnily enough my housemates and I were just agreeing on this last night! The sun going down at 830pm is just perfect :)

that is what i noticed over here, the colours in the australian sunset are far more intense. i think i have seen about 2 here that i really remember that have made me go "wow, that's just like an aussie sunset" i do miss the electrical storms, big time. it means no storm chasing for me and no lightning photography. my step sister sent me an email of some photos from that storm you mentioned. i will pass them on to you

Yeah I only saw one decent sunset in London and it was only very average - not like the pretty sunsets you get here like at least 5 or 6 nights out of seven in the week during summer! :)
When I was on the plane home I was witness to the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen as well - flying over australia at that time of the morning and looking out the window seeing the rugged countryside below and a sky that went from the most stunning oranges to blues will be in my mind forever!
Yeah the storm the other night was amazing - I've not seen lightening that cool in ages!
