The streets were dark; everyone was well asleep by now. That is, everyone except Frank and Gerard. Frank’s birthday was approaching fast and Gerard was doing everything in his power to keep Frank entertained and happy. What kind of boyfriend would he be if he didn’t?
“So Gerard, what’s next on our schedule?”
“Well…let us see. It’s about 5 AM and we’ve done just about everything on our list.” Gerard said pulling out a long sheet of paper with groceries listed on it.
“Hmm…then should we be going back to your house for some sleep?”
“I think we should, but frankly I’m not tired.”
“Neither am I.” Frank said with a smirk forming on his delicate face.
Gerard smirked back at Frank before grabbing his hand and leading the smaller one to his house. The journey was quiet. The silence was neither awkward nor unwanted, but calming. The world around them didn’t matter and the moonlight made everything illuminate beautifully.
For Frank it was perfect. He wanted nothing more then to be with Gerard. Gerard was everything to him and that wasn’t going to change. Everytime Gerard and Frank were seen together they were smiling and laughing. The two never had a dull moment.
Once they arrived home they looked at each other and smiled. Gerard had his back toward the moon and took in every detail of Frank’s face in the moonlight. Gerard moved closer to Frank moving stray hairs away from his face and placed a kiss on his soft pink lips.
“You’re truly beautiful, you know that?”
Frank just smiled and pulled Gerard down for another kiss. The kiss lasted for a while, letting them each soak up the moment. Frank’s arms snaked around Gerard’s neck and Gerard smiled into the kiss wrapping his arms around Frank’s waist, pulling their bodies close.
They stayed like that for quiet a while, that is until a light caught both of their eyes. The sun was in fact rising and they were still outside in each others arms. Gerard pulled away from the kiss and motioned for the two of them to sit on Gerard’s front step. Frank looked at Gerard confused for a moment, but proceeded to sit on the step.
Gerard sat behind him and wrapped his arms back around Frank pulling him close again. They had a perfect view of the sun rise and everything was even better since they were sharing the moment with each other. The sun rose slowly, but that was fine with them. The longer it took, the more time they got to stay the way there were.
The sun had fully risen, but still the couple stayed where they were on the steps. Neither of them was really tired and they certainly didn’t want to go inside. Frank’s body was resting against Gerard’s and their fingers were intertwined tightly.
“Do you want to go walk around? We can go get some food at the diner if you want.”
“Okay, I’d like that a lot.”
Their energy had started to fade away, but as they began to walk to the diner it returned. Frank was beginning to bounce in his step and Gerard sang random songs that popped into his head. Their hands were still together and their fingers still intertwined as they walked with huge smiles on their faces.
They finally made it to the diner and ordered their meals. They didn’t order much, just coffee and pancakes. That was what they usually got anyway. The conversations were kept to a minimum as they ate. The meal was eaten quickly and soon enough they were back on their forever long walk.
They decided to head to the park and watch all the early risers with their kids. Secretly they longed for a life where they could have children of their own and not have to teach the kid how to fight in order to keep them alive, but that wasn’t happening and they accepted that. They would just have to wait and besides, Gerard wasn’t very great with children. If he and Frank were to have a child it would grow up spoiled rotten.
By the time they left it was going on 10. They always seem to waste more time at the park then they do at their own homes. Time seemed irrelevant when they were with each other. The walk became very quiet; the passing cars were the only thing breaking the silence. Then something came to Frank’s mind.
"So, let me get this straight, you're going to be Batman for Halloween?"
"Uh-huh! I'm so excited!"
"Gerard...." Frank sighed, stuffing his hands into his pockets. He bit back a sarcastic comment, seeing as how Gerard was pretty much flapping around in joy. He didn't want to ruin one of Gerard's good (in the normal sense of the word) moods. Usually he was ranting about death in some happily ironic way...
They settled for silence for a little bit, walking side by side. It was a chilly autumn day in this neighborhood they were walking through. It was a bit scenic, with golden and brown leaves falling down against the deep green grass. Frank pulled his hood over his head to protect his poor ears from the cold and continued walking down the tree lined sidewalks with Gerard by him. Cars whizzed by occasionally, and Frank took comfort in them and the crunch of dead leaves beneath their feet. He was about to start up another conversation, and then--
HONK! HONK!
"Hey, baby! Yeah, you, the short girl! Why don't you get your pretty little ass in this car so we can party?!"
Frank stopped. He blinked once, then twice, still hearing their cat-calling. "Assholes," he muttered under his breath.
Then something clicked in his head. He stamped his foot on the ground, and screamed indignantly after the blue pick-up truck. "I AM NOT A GIRL!" He crossed his arms over his chest and pulled his hood off sulkily. Maybe if they could see his head they'd realize he was male.
Gerard stood staring in the direction of the car, a shocked look on his face. They stood there for a few moments, and Frank finally ground something out.
"About Halloween...."
"...yeah?"
"You want to be a hero, right…The Dark Knight?"
“Uh...I...guess so..." Gerard replied cautiously.
"Well, then why don't your go protect your lady's honor?"
"...."
"And defend her dignity, at that."
