Here we gooooo!

Jul 16, 2003 22:47

Well, today was an interesting day. Work was quite uppy/downy, which, although the downy parts suck, the time flies, and that’s always good! To all my other office-working friends (Tiffany and Russell) I’m sorry I didn’t update this morning, but I really didn’t have time. My bad! I had fun on lunch break! Me and Jill and Salonge went to The Pretzelmaker at the Avalon Mall and had some pretzels, as opposed to the usual subs or pizza that we usually get. I totally didn’t know that they had coatings for the pretzels, outside of the sauce coatings. Have any of you ever had those popcorn toppings? They’re like salt shakers, but it’s flavoring, kinda like the stuff on chips. That’s the kind of thing that they put on the pretzels, and it’s really really good.

Oh, I should have said at the beginning, for all those people that are about to read this entry at work, I’m gonna separate thoughts with two lines, that way, if you don’t wanna read ALL of it at one time, you don’t have to, and you can just kill a little bit of time every hour or so and read a thought or blurb each time. Man, I think I write these entries more for the people that read them than for myself, ;).

So yeah, I’m just chilling here, listening to some recordings I made of me singing along with Clay Aiken. They’re pretty damn funny, I must say. There’s a few places where I screwed up a bit, but other than that, it’s kinda hard to tell the voices apart, apparently, which I think is awesome, though Russell seems to hate Clay, and Meg says he’s annoying... and I’d say Krystle hates him... but Tiff likes him, and that’s enough. At least WE have good (open) taste in music, hey? :) I’m so excited for the new CD! And guess what! MY PARENTS LIKE HIM. My Dad picks me up at the office today and he’s got the Clay CD single going in the truck, and I’m like “What are you doing listening to this?” and he was all “You never had it with you, so I took it to listen to while I was driving down to pick you up. That boy can SING!” I guess they’ve heard enough of him going in my room to want to listen for themselves.

My E-Bow never came in today :( ... I’m kinda starting to get anxious, now. Everyday is like “Oh, it’ll be here tomorrow” then I call and it’s not there! I’m so excited about getting it, and the wait just keeps longer, but I guess that’s ok. It’s like Christmas, where the waiting is so much fun, then after, it’s like “Aww, I’d rather I was waiting for it.” Am I the only one who notices that? About Christmas, I mean. Some lady told me yesterday that she has all her Christmas shopping done. I don’t understand that. It’s 28 degrees here today, and like, 38 with the humidity. How can you go out and buy Christmassy stuff, like, Santa Claus wrapped up in all his furry clothes, when it’s the equivalent of like, 40 degrees outside! That’s retarded, and forgetting temperature, it’s July. I mean, half the fun in buying Christmas presents is going there (the stores) in the seasonal rush, and trying to find the stuff you’re looking for and going from store to store and stuff. Man, some people gotta plan stuff so much that it ruins Christmas...

The Simpsons are about to come on now. It’s only 5:30. See, I can never write really long posts at one time, so what I’m doing is writing this one throughout the night, and posting it later tonight, so then it’ll be longer and a bit more diverse and eclectic. I know, I’m a loser >;), but it’s way too warm to go outside, and there’s nothing to do, so, I might as well be here, doing this.

I just downloaded Avril Lavigne singing “Knockin’ on Heaven’s door.” It’s pretty cool, really. I didn’t expect something that I’d like, but it’s pretty much just her and an acoustic, some tambourine in the back, and the occasional bass drum shot on the 1. It’s pretty neat. I like Avril, actually. That song “Losing Grip” kicks ass, and although she tends to sing really crappily at awards shows and what not, I’ve got some clips of her just singing at random, more laid-back events, and she’s pretty good, live, and her band is awesome. That Evan guy is great. He plays a lot of the gear that I’d like to play, and his style is cool, and he’s just so confident on stage. Definitely a cool dude. Does anyone know who originally sang that old tune “I’ve had the time of my life?” I just heard it and the melody is pretty catchy, I’d like to hear it. I get the feeling it’s a group, because there’s male and female parts.

Russell just accused me of not being able to let him have the “one up” on me, and that’s why I’m writing the long entries. So, for the record, no, I’m not trying to beat out Russell, haha, this has nothing to do with you, buddy! You can have your long entries, mine are more like... a collection of little entries, posted at once, yours are more coherent, so don’t worry, you can keep your title! ;)

Time for some Bon Jovi...

“Ohhhhhhhhhh, we’re halfway there, hooooooo-ohhhhhhhhh, liiiiivin’ on a prayer....”

I wanna go swimming, but there’s nowhere around here to go. I know that I’m only like, 5 minutes from Sunshine Camp, but that’s always so packed, that you can’t really swim, you just go stand in the shallow water with way too many people, and all the “undeveloped ponds” are horribly dirty, and just disgusting to go in. I need to find a spring reservoir somewhere, now THAT would kick ass. I know, back in the day, me and my cousin used to go to a nice one in St. Phillip’s, but I think it’s advised against now, because of the way the rocks eroded, there’s a kind of whirlpool going and it sucks you out into the salt water and that’s really cold, and really dangerous, so... that sucks.

I GOT PAID TODAY. That’s pretty cool, eh? Unfortunately, I’ve already spent the money, but, that’s how it goes, I suppose. I’m always spending money before I get it, so that I don’t have exciting pay-day thing going, it’s just like “Oh, now I can follow through with my plans.”

I really can’t wait until the band gets back on the go. I’ve been listening to a lot of stuff lately that I haven’t listened to in forever, and I really want to get writing again and start writing stuff that combines a little bit of everything. I really miss jamming, too. I’m excited to hear Jon sing with us, I just wonder who is going to fill in on bass for us. I really hope it’s someone who can fit in with us as tight as Jon does. I liked Russ’s idea of HIM playing bass until we find a singer, and Jon can go back to bass, but then Jon said that he was afraid that it would thin out the sound, so, that’s probably not the best route to take, since I think I agree with Jon.

I’m really looking forward to George Street Festival weekend! IME is playing here, which is awesome, and we’ll hopefully have a FULL band again to go see that and get blown away and say “Shiiiiit” then start playing gigs all the time, and Tiff’s probably coming in that weekend with her sister, which is really cool (not that there’s really anything to do in St. John’s, either, but hey). I hope that they don’t ID at the concert. That would really really suck. Not getting to see Jag play live would really suck, especially after Jon seeing him and “not telling me about it”, because it’s so good to see.

I just went for a drive. How dull! I did get to check out some awesome new places that are going up around where I live. I’m starting to run out of things, considering I never started with anything, I’m just kind of rambling.

Time for some Evanescence...
I gotta buy their CD. What I’ve heard of it sounds really cool, and apparently if you like one song, you like the whole CD (Sounds kinda like “Birds of Pray’ by Live). Maybe I should do a CD review. That would take up some space... hmm, let’s throw back a few years to some Lifehouse, since I was talking about them the other day.

Everyone, like EVERYONE can probably sing back most of the words to “Hanging by a Moment.” It was the biggest single of the year in whatever year it was released (I’m thinking 2001). A really catchy tune that was apparently written in 15 minutes, which just proves that time doesn’t necessarily make a good song. Good songs just happen, and the key is to make them happen to YOUR band. The next track, “Sick Cycle Carousel” is kinda hard to get your head around until you listen a couple of times. It’s got a bit of a dark feeling, while still retaining light aspects, it’s kinda weird, but a really cool tune. Nothing much to say about these two tunes, as everyone knows the first, and the second is just pretty weird. “Unknown” is the third track. Again, it’s kinda weird, but everyone that I’ve ever spoken to that likes it, loves it. It’s kind of a love it or hate it deal. “Somebody Else’s Song” is number 4. This was probably the low point of the CD for me. Of all the listens I’ve given this CD (and it’s a lot) this one always stood out as a bit of a downer :(. Now, “Trying” is next. What an awesome tune. Jason’s raspy voice really comes through here, yet he does it without losing all enunciation. All his words feel really well punctuated, but he keeps this husky sound that just makes the song flow softly, but with this driving feeling to it. I’ve heard a live version of this song and liked it more than the CD version. Very kick-ass tune. “Only One” follows, and it kinda has a special place for Myky, haha. I played/sang this song in a performance in “Applied Music 3206" in grade school. It’s the first time I ever sang in front of anyone... ever, but it went really well. “Simon” is by far my favorite song on this CD, and probably up there as one of my favorite songs of all time. It’s a story about a little boy, growing up and just really getting shit on a lot, and pushed back, by the “strong” people. My favorite line is probably “...but the fearful always preyed upon you confidence... Could you get it back again? Would it be the same?” Really awesome tune, so so pretty, but in the bridge, one of the most intense songs I know, even though it’s not crazily heavy guitars pounding the shit out of everything (Sorry Russ ;). “Cling and Clatter” is a really neat tune. The guy I performed “Only One” with wanted to play this one instead, actually, but it has a lot of effects in it and I didn’t want to use any, because I was playing acoustic. Definitely a neat little tune, a little bit weird, kinda like “Sick Cycle Carousel,” but I like this one a bit more, I think. “Breathing” was another single, I believe it was the last one before “Spin” came out, from Stanley Climbfall. A bit of a bitch to play, because of very similar chord progressions, changing everywhere, and I think what it was recorded, something happened and warped it, cuz a lot of the chords sound a bit off, when they’re right, according to lessons and what not. “Quasimodo” is a lot like “Simon,” or at least to me... same kind of lyrical feeling. “Somewhere In Between” is awesome. It was originally a demo that Jason recorded, but then it got re-recorded and re-mixed to be put onto the No Name Face CD. I was ALWAYS performing this in school when we busked for “Coins For Cancer.” I got kinda known for doing it... at least it was a good song, unlike when I was known for all the Creed. Haha. “Everything” is the last song on the CD, and rightfully so. It’s SO SO powerful! Probably one of the sexiest songs of the last few years. I don’t know any of my musician friends who haven’t sung this to SOME girl at some point during grade school, at parties and beach parties and stuff. A bunch of us sang it a few weeks ago at Middle Cove Beach for some friends. I was terribly, terribly sick with the flu, but I was beltin’ it out anyway. Another one of my favorite tunes, but it’s in its own category of just slow, nice, pretty songs. “Everything” is to No Name Face what “Not Enough” is to Gravity. It’s the song that EVERYONE knows, and loves, but wasn’t single, and seems to be the semi-disputed best song on the CD. That’s it for my review. I didn’t get all in-depth musical cuz that’s boring. I decided just to give a short little blurb about each song and hopefully convince some people to buy it, because it’s really good, and you can probably get it for about $10, and it’s worth every penny and then some.

Ok, so Jen says “Let me send you the song I’m listening to” then I had to promise I wouldn’t read the name/title until it started to play, so she sends and when I click “Open,” what are the first words I hear? “You can’t touch this” *doo doo-doo dooo... da-doo da-doo* How bad is that? MC Hammer? Oh... I’m not gonna go anywhere with this one.

I’m writing this in WordPerfect, and I’m closing in on Page 5. Man, I’m long-winded today... no wait, that’s not the term.... full of shit... yeah, there we go. LoL.

*Wake me up*
Wake me up inside
*I can't wake up*
Wake me up inside
*Save me*
Call my name and save me from the dark
*Wake me up*
Bid my blood to run
*I can't wake up*
Before I come undone
*Save me*
Save me from the nothing I've become

What an awesome tune. I was listening to the demo version all day, but I’m a bigger fan of this one, I think, with the guy from 12 Stones. I’ve never really listened to them. Maybe I should, I’d probably like them, according to most sources!

Anyways, I’d better head out. It’s getting late, so I’ll talk to you all later, and hope you all have good days at work, and I hope this kills some time for ya, Tiff ;)
