helllllllllo
what a strange day its been. it started very well, i made a nice mix cd(more on that later) then went down into a rather crap day... i had to bust out the Emo tunes and get myself too close to crying for comfort.
in the last 24 hours i've been called hypocritical, obvious, amusing, and "nice". hmm.
onto the mix cd..one of the actual good things i did today.
1. Weezer - The World Has Turned And Left Me Here - this is off their first album...it was always the song i least liked on it, but lately i've been listening to it over and over and i've realized it is in fact brilliant.
2. Ozma - Apple Trees - It was playing this song one night that it suddenly hit me that if i sang in a higher key i had a decent voice. its a beautiful song and i posted the lyrics to it one or two entries ago.
3. Belle & Sebastian - Photo Jenny - Just for the way it starts, "I'm in a mess, i'm in a dress" this song deserves massive praise.
4. Belle & Sebastian - Beautiful - Lisa is a recurring character in Stuart M.'s songs and in this case she's a girl who goes blind...the song lives up to its name.
5. The Cure - Friday I'm In Love - I have vague recollections of falling for someone on a friday and then repeatedly listening to this song...anyhow, its brilliant...its The Cure!
6. The Smiths - What She Said - I think irene needs to listen to The Smiths. I think Julia does too.
7. Mates of State - Proofs - THey're a wonderful two person married couple/band who play really pretty poppy synthesizer-led stuff.
8. Beulah - If We Can Land A Man on the Moon, Then Surely I Can Win Your Heart - besides having the best song title, oh, ever, this one is just a very very pretty song.
9. Nada Surf - 80 Windows - This song has possibly the most make-mike-cry chorusses ever : "i feel faraway from you/so what else is new / the moon is closer to the sun / than i am to anyone". who *hasnt* felt that?*
10. Further Seems Forever - New Year's Project - see right above for cry-factor
11. Weezer - No One Else, The Good Life, Pink Triangle, Island in the Sun, and Smile - 5 (i think?) songs from one of the BEST bands EVER... theyre just amazing. a m a z i n g.
16. Ozma - If I Only Had A Heart - another Ozma song because they're brilliant as well "i'd give my heart, just to be in contention/but i sold it off at the baseball card convention"
17. Svelte - 1985 - Although i can't relate to the being-playground-kids in 1985 thing, its a great song about growing up and stuff.
18-20. Flashing Lights - Highschool, Summertime Climb, Where the Change Is - The flashing lights' singer matt murphy has possibly one of the best voices ever, and the songs are great little pop/rock tunes.
21. Teenage Fanclub - Everything Flows - this used to be my number one listen-to-fifty-times-a-day song. i still love it but i hadnt heard it in about 3 months until making this cd.
well thats that...i'm going to post this and then add more in the next post
