Sexual assault charges against Lakers guard Kobe Bryant have been dropped, according to the Associated Press. Less than a week before opening statements were set to commence, the accuser opted to drop the charges rather than endure the scrutiny and take the stand. Bryant will still face charges in a civil lawsuit.

We never really thought that Kobe might go to jail or miss the season, and he can now get back to focusing on the hardwood-where he is suddenly the leader of a rebuilt Lakers roster. Without Shaq, the burden will fall on Kobe to do it all this season, and his fantasy numbers, save field goal percentage, should go up as a result.
