I used a song in Take It Back by Detroit-based hip-hop group Cobalt Party Revolution and recently sent them a couple copies of the DVD. Today I got a MySpace message from member Ryan Tilly (aka Cash Till) containing a small 'review' of the flick.
"Hey Mike,
Sorry i haven't gotten back to you yet. I did receive the DVDs (thank you so much!). I'm meeting with the other guys in a few days to do vocals for a new tune we're posting soon so i'll give the other copies to 'em.
Actually, I really liked it. I watched every out-take, trailer, video and every clip on it. Very cool stuff. I love seeing the "where it all started" kinda stuff... ya know... the old school stuff before you knew what you were doing. It's great! We have some old-school footage of some rehearsals, gigs, and stuff that I can't wait to put to tape. Your dvd actually gave me motivation to do that.
Regarding "take it back"... very cool idea. brillant concept. I love watching films that start with an idea and works backwards (while the plotline moves forward), until you finally find out what led the main character to their predicament. (i;e; Memento, or The Machinist - GREAT FILMS).
anyhow, the "destination: anywhere" placement worked well in the scene too. (actually that tune just got placed in another feature film featuring Danny Devito called "House Broken" that is coming out soon in the states).
But yeah, Good job (yet again). Your work gets better and better so don't give up on it.
Much respect
- Cash Till"
Please, please visit this band's
website, or their
MySpace profile and at least sample their stuff. It's extremely fun, catchy stuff, and totally accessible even for somebody who may not be totally into hip-hop.
Buy their albums. Seriously.
Or buy the Take It Back DVD.
In fact, buy both.
