Time to take a long, hard look in the mirror.

I auditioned for VH1's upcoming trivia gameshow, The World Series of Pop Culture. It was me, Brad and Beau (twin brothers) as a team of three called "One Of These Guys Is Not Like The Other". Pretty clever, huh? Anyway, we were one of 5 or 6 teams (just for that batch of auditioners, mind you) who made it through the written test. We had a brief interview, and evidently if they like us enough to come back tomorrow and compete for a chance to get on the show, I will get a phone call sometime before 9PM tonight. So far it's 7:15 and nothing yet. But actully I secretly almost kind of hope they don't choose us to come back tomorrow b/c believe it or not, I have never been so intimidated by nerds in my whole entire life. These are people whose entire lives exist solely within the fantasies of TV, films and music. Honestly, I don't know if I would stand a chance against them. I feel like that this is the moment they've been waiting for all their lives and my puny Pop Culture intellect is no match for their clearly superior minds. I like to think that my knowlege of anything Pop Culture is incidental. It's fun and of course I really enjoy it, but I don't seek it out. For them, it is definitely intentional. And the style...I don't mean to be judgemental, but if you are an avid observer of Pop Culture (which includes fashion trends), wouldn't you maybe have the knowhow to discern which styles to properly emulate and which ones not to? They looked like what the people at Dragoncon wear when they are not at Dragoncon. I was searching for one hot or even hot-ish nerd, either guy or girl. I can honestly say I didn't see even one. It was mainly a lot of this...

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that I've never considered myself a nerd or a geek. But not like this. Never like this. I was expecting geeks in vein of Rivers Cuomo or Tina Fey or David Cross, or David Sedaris even. Sigh. Not even close.
