I was offered a job in the Atlanta area today! Unfortunately I start on September 27th, so I was only able to give my current boss a weeks notice. I think he understood that I needed to move and be near my kids, but I'm only giving him a few working days notice...
I really need to be loading a truck and driving on Friday the 24th, that would put me in Atlanta like Saturday or Sunday and I would need to immediately find an apartment and then start work on Monday. Argh.... I hate last minute fly-by-the-seat of your pants kinda stuff.
This is a blessing though. I've felt really good about it since the beginning. I remember when I first saw the ad and put my resume in via Careerbuilder. Then I saw it on monster, then I saw it on ajcjobs.com then I saw it on Craigslist. I couldn't get it out of my mind. I went to their website submitted my resume (thinking it would be good if the HR people saw my name multiple times...) Then I just couldn't get it out of my head that I needed to call and followup on it. So I did, it was hard I had to kind of talk a customer service guy into giving me an HR phone number, but he did. I spoke to the HR manager and she couldn't find my resume/ application! I asked if I could email to her directly, which she said yes to. She put it in the hands of the HR person in charge of that position.
Then I had a phone interview with the HR person. She was really nice and informative and I could tell by how she said it that she liked me, and she told me she was going to recommend me to the hiring manager. I followed up with her when I hadn't heard anything, the manager was busy, but I should hear soon she said. The manager decided that it didn't make sense to make me fly down for an interview on short notice, so he interviewed me over the phone. That was a HUGE blessing right there!
He's been hemming and hawing for a couple of days... But they called me today and made me an offer. The money is a little less than I make in New England, but that was to be expected I think going to Atlanta, wages are just a little lower.
I'm excited about the job and the chance to be near my kids again and spend time with them on the weekends!
I will miss my co-workers and many people in the church here that I've met and become friends with.
BUT I GET TO BE A DAD AGAIN !!! YAY!!!
I love my kiddies!
Thanks to everyone that has offered sympathy and support etc. through this especially tough time.
