When Seconds Count

Jul 28, 2005 12:44

So I've been bored, and I've been doing math...a deadly combination.

How long will it take until you've lived for 1 billion seconds?

1,000,000,000/60 = 16,666,666.6666666666667 --> Minutes in a billion seconds
16,666,666.6666666666666667 / 60 = 277,777.77777777778 --> Hours in a billion seconds
277,777.77777777778 / 24 = 11574.074074074... --> Days in a billion seconds
11574.074074074... / 365 = 31.709791983... --> Years in a billion seconds

So, it takes 31 years, 8 months, 12.4 days to live a billion seconds.

----------------------------------------------

How long will it take to live 1 million seconds?

1,000,000 / 60 = 16,666.667 minutes
16,666.667 / 60 = 277.7778 hours
277.7778 / 24 = 11.574... days

So every 11.574 days, you live a million seconds.

----------------------------------------------

Now me:
16 years * 365 = 5840 days
+ March -> July = 140 days

= 5980 days

5980 days / 11.574 * 1,000,000 = 516,675,306.72196 seconds

I have lived for approximately 516,675,000 seconds, excluding leap years and other stupid calendar issues. Halfway there!
