I'm in the process of re-watching Paul Verhoeven's epic Robocop. Fuck yeah.
I finally got my phone working again (the 541-228-1203 number), so if you've tried to call me and only got my message machine, it's because it's been out of commission for a little over a month.
I feel like everything's starting to calm down, and I'm getting settled in here. I applied for an RA position a couple days ago, which would save ridiculous amounts of money. Crossing my fingers.
The best record store I've found in Chicago thus far, Reckless Records kind of ticks me off in ways. Mainly, because everyone working there seems extremely high and mighty. I went in to buy the new Bonnie 'Prince' Billy record today, and the guy who I asked for it kind of semi-scoffed and rummaged in the back for a copy. So the search for a record store with a good selection sans the condescension continues.
The Baby and the Sattelite EP by Micah P. Hinson is probably one of my favorite releases of the year. It's just beautiful, solemn folk music. "The Dreams You Left Behind (Reprise)" may be, without exageration, one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
Micah P. Hinson - The Dreams You Left Behind (Reprise) I've always known about Lali Puna, but never actually listened to them until now. Super good.
Lali Puna - Faking the Books (MP3) I saw Man Man a couple nights ago, and holy crap...easily one of the best shows I've seen all year. Anyone in Eugene who likes bizzare, high-energy, original music should go to their WOW Hall show on October first. They are incredible.
Man Man - Black Mission Goggles (MP3) New Album Leaf record. Listen if you like Sigur Ros, or calming electronic music.
The Album Leaf - The Light (MP3)
