Once again, in South Carolina. This time with my girl, Erica. We're going back to Cumberland in a week by plane so I can wrap some stuff up. After that, S.C. becomes home for 3 months.
I drove from RI to here in two days. 9 hours on Monday, hotel Monday night, 7 hours on Tuesday. The drive down there really wasn't that bad. The first day was really just excitement and anxiety, but by 11 P.M., Erica and I were slowly losing our minds. At one point, we were dancing to Christian Radio shows. It was nuts.
We got to the hotel in Harrisonburg, VA around midnight, an hour after front desk check in. I ran up to the front of the doors and knocked for a few minutes until a portly gentleman helped me out. Erica and I fell asleep watching "Jon & Kate plus 8"...my god.
Tuesday morning, we set off again. Leaving around noon, we raced down the rest of VA and deeper into the Bible Belt. While in the mountains of Virginia, we stopped at a Burger King. The area and it's people strangely reminded me of Deliverance. Cue the banjo.
Finally, after hours of mindless bickering and laughter, we arrived. I pulled up to my driveway with my Jetta and grinned with excitement. Unfortunately, my mom was at work and my siblings were at the airport picking up my Aunt, who was coincidentally arriving from Colombia that day. Luckily, my dad was home.
Anyway, here I am, with Erica. She's finally fallen asleep for the first time in two nights. She was sleeping on my brothers bed but found too stiff, so she's in mine. We went to downtown Greenville tonight for some cheesy rock festival, but we had a blast. We walked up and down the street looking at all the small shops and all the drunk business men. Everyone seemed content and relaxed. Actually, everyone in this state looks like that all the time. South Carolina is so lax.
Overall, things have been going great. I've been having a great time with my family, especially with my brother and sister. Life is pretty damn good.
