Two nights ago my father had a mild stroke and hemmorhage in his eye, which resulted in a retinal detachment. I attempted to call in sick to work and was not shown sympathy and was forced to work (or lose my job). While it was impossible to be with my father in person, the least I could do was stay on the phone with him while he was waiting to be taken to the ER. Apparently an immediate family emergency (isn't that redundant?) isn't enough for Starbucks, and employee consideration isn't in their vocabulary, so i'm quitting. I could use some help looking for a job, so please keep your ears open for me.

Police identify man who died in ocean off Montara State Beach

Tuesday, December 28, 2004

(12-28) 17:13 PST SAN MATEO, Calif. (AP) --

A 31-year-old man who died in the stormy water near Montara State Beach was identified by authorities Tuesday.

"Sebastian" of San Francisco died Monday from drowning, the San Mateo County Coroner's Office said after conducting an autopsy Tuesday.

Sebastian, who recently moved from Kansas to California, left his home Monday morning to go swimming in the Pacific Ocean near Montara State Beach, friends told San Mateo County Sheriff's investigators.

But a storm that battered the state led to 10-to-12 foot waves and Tompkins died in the rough waters. Witnesses spotted his body in the water at around 3 p.m. Monday and he washed ashore shortly after that.

Police said there was no foul play suspected and the cause of death was listed as accidental.

The Sheriff's Department warned people to be cautious about going into the water along the San Mateo County coastline, especially during this time of year.

Dude. I was just going to call you today and tell you that I'm getting DSL next month so we could work on that music we were talking about. You'll be missed, mate. RIP.
