Had an interesting weekend:
Friday night I covered half of my radio show so Tomas could pick up his lady at the airport. The show will be up at at the
Friday Night Session website ASAP. Check some of the other shows out if you haven't already. The archives go back years. Some of you have been asking to hear the tunes i've been posting in my charts -- this is your chance.
Afterwards I raced down to
Mezzanine to meet Timmmi P. and catch
Booka Shade.
It was staged like a rock show, with the sound all at one end of the club, the stacks suspended from the ceiling. It sounded like ass if you were more than 15 feet away. At one point the subs dropped out completely and stayed that way for 10 minutes. Added to that, the crowd was made up of a horrendous mix of scenesters and B&T'ers, who loudly shouted at each other so their inane conversations could be heard above the music (which wasn't nearly loud enough to begin with). There were some up-for-it folks up at the front, and everybody got good and drunk so they could whoop it up at the end, but the duration of the show was quite insufferable. The minute the show was over, we got the fuck out of there.
Saturday night I DJ'd at Tim's house party. He's got this kick-ass apartment in the Mission that features a gorgeous backyard patio complete with ivy-covered wire arch and a small barn which was kitted out with decks and a soundsystem. I played for something like 3 hours or so, which was super fun, despite the lack of a regular dancefloor.
Sunday night I, again, DJ'd on local pirate radio station
West Add Radio, on Bryan James and Susan Qzen's
Moxie Music show. They have a podcast, I highly recommend you
subscribe. My show should be available soon.
Last night I went to the
Independent to see
OOIOO. They were amazing. These clips don't even come close.
