Its pretty offical now, Boomerang has ensnared my fragile soul with its colorful cartoons of yore. Late Night B&W is perhaps the best show around and its gotten me thinking about the ultimate nature/destiny of cartoons. Primarily they have been designed for kids and much like comic books, they are working to eliminate the idea that they are just for kids though some people disagree with them doing so.

Take for instance John Kflibbitysmooo of Ren & Stimpy Fame. They guy helped form up the modern American cartoon style, you can see his influence in The Venture Brothers with the way the characters move about. He brought back a variety of things that had been lost during the late 70s and made some damn fine cartoons, but he is under the impression that cartoons should pretty much be silly all of the time. I can't imagine what his reaction would be to Waking Life. Anyway, while I respect his work to keep cartoons organic and to remember their roots, I don't agree with his stance on many other things. He does make a good many points about background work and staging, but it pretty much dissolves into bitching about "in MY day..."

Cartoons, like every other entertainment medium will evolve. To sit and say that they must stay one way goes against human nature itself. Granted, a great many cartoons do blow today and the current overuse of Flash cartoons on T.V. is making me sick, (I'm looking at you, El Tigre, Mucha Lucha, Edgar & Ellen, The Secret Show, Class of 3000, Corneil & Burnie and Kappa Mikey. Not Fosters or Metalocalypse though, you keep doing what you are doing.) But its all part of the natural progression of things. Like how "Animated Movies" are now all CGI and kinda lame. It goes in cycles.

At the very least with more cartoons being made, the likelyhood of something good popping up goes waaaaay up. A few choice cartoons of the last few years include, Anything By PIXAR, Boondocks, Brendan Small's work, Richard Linklater's revitalization of Rotoscope, The Venture Bros and my favorite of the last few years, Avatar: The Last Airbender. I only wish they would increase the FPS of these fine cartoons. Avatar would look so much better with just a few more frames.

Wow, that was kind of a rant. I'm sorry 'bout that.
In better news, I have a date at the end of the semester. Go me! Oh, also, do any of you know where I can find the Tabs for a Nekromantix tune called Return of the Loving Dead? I've done like 13 google searches and they all have like ten songs, three of which are just different versions of Necrophilia. Thankee in advance, soldiers!

joy, rant, my fingers are sore from playing the gui, meme, they kind of tingle, boobs.
