And another thing, I'm freaking sick of people posting videos to scans_daily. I mean, the community was founded for homoerotic crap, then it started to open up to comic art in general, but now it's become this big garbage dump where members just post whatever useless shit they have on hand. CGI pornography? Post it to scans_daily! YouTube video from some cartoon no ( Read more... )

Maybe you shouldn't read s_d. You don't like the slashy core aspect of it, you don't enjoy the commentary, and every time you have anything to say about it here, it just seems to get you worked up to no satisfactory result. Just doesn't seem like your cuppa. Seriously, do put together your own community. The lack of photomanips and vids would be a plus so far as I'm concerned.

Don't think I won't try to push Elfquest in under the radar, though.

Also, a 'members may post content no more than twice a day' rule would be nice.

See, this is what I'm saying. You don't have to agree with my tastes to appreciate that SD's a flawed community. I'd gladly tolerate an Elfquest Week if it meant I didn't have to endure "Dan Didio Sucks Year" or "Prove Batman's Gay" Century.

Of course s_d is flawed; there is no perfect lj comm, or perfect messageboard, or perfect human being for that matter. The only issue is if you can appreciate s_d for what it is, warts and all. Because if you can't, why stay? What's the point in subjecting yourself to something that brings you no pleasure? Leave, make your own comm, do whatever. Or if you're determined to stick with s_d, be part of the change you want to see. I've been on s_d for about a year, have raided the tags time and time again, and almost all Thunderbolts scans were posted by myself, remix17, and a couple of other random people. My ability to post is influenced by my Zemo fixation and the fact that most of my comics collection was stolen a couple years ago. You could post scans yourself, introducing people to the storylines and characters, homoeroticism-free if that's how you roll (and on any given day on s_d, 7 out of 10 posts are just random shit someone liked, and not particularly slashy in any way).

I have to agree with this. Most of what I post is a) Thunderbolts and b) non-slashy content. But come on, tell me there ISN'T something kinda queer going on with Helmut, even without all the purple and tiaras. The gaybashing, the Fixer stuff... It's fun to joke about. It doesn't mean Zemo will ever snog a dude, but it's amusing and in good fun.

And seriously, mike, I would enjoy your contributions to the site, if you take up mipp on her suggestion. I'm proud of the fact that I and Mipp have put the Tbolts tag page to two pages total right now, and that I consider it my civic duty to post every new issue on the site; there's always room for more play from other fans, especially now that the old Tbolts are in danger if we don't get new fans. s_d was how *I* got back into the fandom anyway (I didn't know until s_d that the comic was stil going or that recent stuff was any good).

Grah...I'd like to nominate instant death to 95% of all week themes, personally. Something like holiday-themed weeks or creator-themed weeks or even stuff like porn week, sure, because you get some kind of variety there. But, for the most part, character or comic-themed weeks just put wear and tear on my scroll wheel because they just seem like a contest to see who can post the most crap without explaining why said crap has enough merit be taking up screen space. I tend to like s_d for the variety of scans posted and seven consecutive posts of comics dealing with the same character/team just gets annoying.
