For what it's worth, we had a cat who would swallow gophers whole, without even chewing much. He did it right in front of me, so I know the bastard did it. We never found any regurgitations either.
So it CAN be done, if the cat's an iron-stomached freak of nature.
Ron's from a magical family. You know the way wizards dress when they think they're blending into Muggle culture - they have no clue. But they do know about wizard things, like dragons and ancient Egyptian curses and such. Ron was the one who explained the Unbreakable Vow to Harry, after all, in HBP.
The only thing that might skew this is if Ron isn't thinking straight. Which is possible. He's a teenaged boy, after all, and he's lost his pet. So far, the attractions of girls still pale against a beloved rat.
I believe it said somewhere (possibly on JKR's website) that he's hal a kneazle. It would make sense for them to have iron-stomachs (because cast-iron stomach of rodentine death sounds too good not to be true), though the only canon special power I can remember from the top of my head is that they're supposed to recognise ureliable people or some shit like that.
So it CAN be done, if the cat's an iron-stomached freak of nature.
