#1. Yes, yes it is.

#2. While thinking about Serenity, I realized this is one of the main things Rowling has going for her. While I've never watched Firefly or Serenity, I've always loathed Buffy because every single character seems determined to be an oh-so-witty smartass, and the thing about character dynamics is that you can't just make EVERYBODY a smartass. Look at the old TMTNT cartoons. Raphael was the one getting all the sarcastic jokes in, while Michaelangelo was doing all the pratfalls and just acting silly. On the Justice League cartoon, it's usually the Flash, while other guys like J'onn J'onnz are presented as straight men for him to play off of.
If Whedon wrote those cartoons, everyone would talk just like Raph and the Flash, and it would suck.

Harry Potter seems to lack a loveable wisecracking jerk, but I think the books might be better off for it. Certainly, it's far superior than the other extreme, which would have everyone tripping over each other to make bad one-liners. Besides, Rowling's strength lies in dry humor, so I'm glad she figured that out early on instead of trying to do something beyond her capacity.

I do think that he could at least try to live up to his reputation. He's not the smartests or most patient kid around, but what concerns me is that it doesn't seem to bother him much. By contrast, this was what I always loved so much about another Chosen One, Rodimus Prime, because he always felt inaequate to the task of leading the Autobots, yet he always struggled to conduct himself like a responsible commander, even when he didn't feel like one.

#3. Maybe.
