OK, I gotta get my butt in gear. October 21st, people. That's the day Amazon is supposed to have delivered my copy of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi for the Playstation 2. Every year they make one of these games, and every year I play the hell out of 'em for about four months to the exclusion of about everything else. This time around you can ( Read more... )

Harry changes the subject to Lupin's personal feelings towards Snape.

Because he suspects how much Lupin lurves Snape! *giggles* (Sorry, I just can't help but try to convince you.)

Dammit, the BOOK is fifty years old, you idiot. The NOTES could still have been written anytime between then and now.

OMG I know! I spent the entire book wanting to grab Harry by the shoulders and shake him.

Um, I would have more response, but I'm at work and keep getting interrupted. Stupid patrons. Don't they know I want to read my LJ flist? LOL

Also, how can he not know who went to Hogwart's fifty years ago? Go to the library, check out a damn yearbook, eliminate anyone who is either female or pureblood, and then cross-reference with the school's records on who took Potions that year. Hell, even if your research doesn't turn up anything, you can talk to the freaking ghosts and paintings who were there.

This all assumes you only have to research a single school year--fifty would be too many--but since that is what Harry assumes he's a Legendary Super Dumbass for not even figuring that much out.

On top of that, I don't know why he's so worried about it, because unlike us Harry is not supposed to know he's in a book called Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, so he shouldn't know that this is a major plot point and as high a priority as unraveling Draco's plot. Come to think of it, it's been six months and Draco isn't any closer to executing his scheme than Harry is to finding out what it is. I'm elevating Harry to Super Dumbass Level 4.

I guess, Harry's just curious about learning who wrote all those instructions in the book and maybe at first he was hoping it would provide him with more information about his dead parents. I agree, at this point his obsession seems a bit weird. Later on, you start to get the idea that the HBP may not have been such a nice person.

And why would Harry bother doing any research when he can have Hermione do all the work for him? Harry and Ron seldom do anything themselves.

Let's put it this way. Not only did he need someone to TELL him to check the publication date on the book, but he had to flip through the book to find it. Rowling notes that he "finally" located it towards the front. You know, where the publication date of any book would be. I don't think research is his strong suit.

Dumbing Down Harry innerslytherin September 28 2005, 04:37:21 UTC
I swear, Rowlings seems bound and determined to make Harry weaker and dumber with every book after either the third or fourth one. (Exactly which one depends on your PoV.) He was never Brainiac Five, but Harry wasn't *this* bad (IMO). And, by the end of the third book, it seemed obvious that Harry had *power*, even if his control over it wasn't the best.

Hopefully, the seventh book will give us some *halfway* believable reason for Harry's problems. Like Voldemorte has been using the link to block (or leech) at least some of Harry's power, and to screw around with his head at a lower (and constant) level than what we saw in the fifth book.

My personal opinion is that Rowlings wants to keep Harry from becoming unbelievably powerful/smart/ect... Unfortunately, she's gone to far and is making him unbelievably stupid instead.
